Friday afternoon was perfect baseball weather. Unfortunately it was not a good baseball day for the CEU Golden Eagles. The first game started out with a lot of promise.
Southern Nevada jumped on top early with a run in the first. CEU was able to hold them to that for five innings. The Eagles could not score as they could not string together a hitting streak long enough to move a runner home.
In the sixth two errors allowed Southern Nevada to add a pair. They were also able to add a couple more in the seventh to bring their total to five runs on the day.
CEU could only manage a single run in the seventh to finished with a final score of 5-1.
The second game saw a lot of goose eggs going on the board for both teams as the pitchers were both throwing some good stuff.
It was Southern Nevada that broke the stalemate in the fourth with a trey of runs. CEU could not get the bats going in the game and ended as they started, with a zero on the scoreboard.
Southern Nevada added one on the seventh and took the game 4-0.
Saturday the same two teams again went head to head. Game one again saw some good hitting off the bats of Southern Nevada.
They scored three in the second, three in the third, and added the finishing touch with one in the sixth to down CEU for the third straight game. The Eagles managed to avoid a shut out by posting two in the second.
In the final game of the series CEU’s pitching took over. After allowing one run in the first, Smith pitched shut out ball for the remainder of the game.
Southern Nevada’s pitcher walked the first two CEU batters and it came back to haunt him as they both scored for the Eagles only runs in the first.
CEU managed to avoid the four game sweep by taking the fourth and final game of the series by the score of 2-1.
Though CCSN had been leading the conference in wins, the team sits last in the conference after an NJCAA ruling disqualified two players.
As a result, the six other teams in the conference, including CEU all moved ahead in the rankings.
