Look Good Feel Better – is a one-of-a-kind, national, American Cancer Society program, that helps women address the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Cancer treatment dramatically affects the quality of life and appearance of female patients. Look Good Feel Better is a free program that teaches beauty and hair techniques to female cancer patients in active treatment. The Look Good Feel Better program is held at Castleview Hospital on the first Monday of the month from 6 – 8 pm. Burn Period – for Helper City will April 3 through May 3, 2006. Burn permits are required and can be picked up for FREE at the Helper Fire Department or Helper Police Department.
Free Vaccinations – for children 0-35 months of age, at Helper Clinic, 125 So. Main, Helper, on April 12 from 2-4 p.m. Bring children’s immunization card.
Free Screening – Baby Watch/Early Intervention Program, Emery School District Preschool, and Head Start will be screening children for possible admission/enrollment into any of the available programs or preschool at the Southeastern Utah District Health Office, 28 So. 100 East in Price on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call Head Start at 613-8494 ext. 101 to schedule an appointment or for further information. Helper City Spring Cleanup – Spring Cleanup for residents of Helper City will be in effect the month of April. City crews will be picking up furniture, appliances, metal, cement and branches, which must be cut in 4 foot lengths. These all must be in separate piles. No cars or car parts will be picked up. There will be no backtracking after your week is done and stacks must be next to curb and off the road and sidewalks. New Immunization Clinic Hours – The Southeastern Utah District Health Department Price Clinic has new immunization hours. Immunizations will be given Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. There will no longer be a Thursday morning or Friday afternoon immunization clinic.
Habitat for Humanity – of Castle Country, an affiliate of Carbon and Emery Counties, is building a wheelchair accessible house in Castle Dale. Donations to help finish the roof and buy shingles can be sent to HHCC, P.O. Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Head Start – Head Start is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. The program offers healthy meals, snacks and busing in most areas, as well as activities to help children grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. Early Head Start is a free program for prenatal women and infants 0-3, and offers prenatal health and education services, infants and toddler health services, child development education, home visits, group activities, family and community partnerships. Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – is always looking for adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and birds and clean facilities. Donations are always accepted.
Volunteers Needed – Pro-Care, an after school program in all Carbon County elementary schools, is seeking volunteer help. Volunteers will help out with daily activities and also substitute for regular VISTA workers when necessary. Any high school students and adults that like to work with elementary aged children are welcome to inquire. Must pass background check prior to volunteering. Training will be provided. CASA Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Carbon Family Resource Center – is a free lending library offering resources to help parents and children of all ages with topics including: infant thru adult literacy, children’s learning toys and books, grandparenting, child rearing, teen issues, mental health, cooking, and much more! Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Family Support and Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parent classes/divorce classes, and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. The center offers two parenting classes. One is for teens that are expecting or have children.
