Carbon’s Tyler Turcaso heads down the baseline as the Granite short stop is ready to pitch the ball toward his teammate on third base. Turcaso was caught in a hot box, but managed to evade his pursuers for a little while before he got tagged. It was a short lived victory for Granite however, as they lost 14-0

If the first game of the season is any indication, it could be a good year for the defending 3A champion Carbon Dino baseball team.
Of course then they would have to wear their raincoats all season too.
That’s because on a wet and wild day in Salt Lake, the Dinos took apart the Granite Farmers in a 14-0 five inning game.
“I just want to get this game in,” said Carbon coach Lane Herrick as he stood near his team at a dugout without a roof on. “It’s been hard getting games played this year. We keep getting rained out.”
True, but if the rain does this for the players, they should be so lucky.
Carbon, now 5-3 on the season, was playing it’s first Region 8 game of the year on Tuesday evening. The Farmers however, 0-4, looked like they may have never played baseball at all before. They missed numerous fly balls, made errors and didn’t hit much at all.
That’s not to take anything away from the Carbon boys; they stood their ground well and should offer up a good defense of the region crown as well as the state trophy.
At the beginning of the game, with the rain already falling, the Dinos jumped off to a good start. And that rain held off just long enough for Jordan Moynier to pitch a shut out, before the bus hauled off the team to an even wetter trip home to eastern Utah.
This was the first game Carbon had played on the Granite field too, and it will probably be the last. Next year Granite, a school steeped in over 100 years of baseball tradition, will not have a team because it is being changed to a alternative type of educational facility.
Carbon returns home to face Delta at the friendly confines of their home field on Friday at 3 p.m.
