On Tuesday the Carbon baseball team braved the blizzard and traveled to Sprin gville for a non-region game.
The Dinos were playing well and were up 3-1 in the third. Adam Martinez was pitching a good game. When the team took the field for defense they committed an insurmountable eight errors in the inning to bury themselves. Eleven runs crossed the plate in that inning and they were all Springville’s. Carbon failed to score in the bottom of the inning and the game was called.
On Saturday, the Davis Darts came to town to play a double header. Aaron Sandoval pitched the first game of the pair. The teams traded scores for the first three innings, and it was tied 3-3. J.J. Blue hit one over the fence to keep the team even with the Darts. But it was Davis who was able to edge out the Dinos to take the game 4-3.
Chase Julian took the mound in the second game. The Darts hit him hard enough to push over three in the top of the first.
Julian helped his own cause by taking a walk and then stealing second and third. An overthrow to third allowed him to score the teams first run. Davis put another run across in the second and Carbon was not able to answer with any scoring in the bottom of the second.
Julian held the Darts scoreless in the third and the Dinos chipped away at the lead with another run. The Darts answered with two more and were ahead 6-2 when Carbon’s offense decided it was time to shine.
Seven crossed the plate before the inning was through. Carbon was able to score three more before it was all said and done.
Down by five in the ninth, Davis could only get back one and lost to Carbon with a final score of 8-12. This was a good test for the Carbon boys because Davis is one of the perennial contenders each year in 5A play. Aaron Sandoval was outstanding at the plate getting on base twice on a walk and sending the ball over the fence for a three-run homer.
