College of Eastern Utah women’s basketball wanted to gain a little breathing room over the Snow College Badgers. Last weekend they had the chance to do just that and they took full advantage of the two game meeting of the teams.
The Lady Eagles shot 52 percent in the first half of play to take an early lead in Friday night’s game. They were sizzling at the free throw line as well, hitting 10 for 12. By the end of the first half the Eagles had put 46 points on the board, leaving the Badgers 14 points back.
The second period saw the Eagles cool off. Their shooting percent was off as well as their accuracy from the foul line. They still managed to outscore the Bagers throughout the game and finished off with a 19 point lead.
The Eagles put the hurt on the Badgers with a final score of 81-62. Elisha Harris led the way with 14 points in 28 minutes of play. Kaylynn Fager came off the bench to add 13 to the cause. Fager also hit three out of four three-point attempts.
Playing for Snow, former Carbon High player Brittany Polastro was the leading scorer for the Badgers with 15.
The same two teams squared off again on Saturday night. CEU again came out shooting well. The Snow team also shot well on Saturday night and the game was closer. However CEU had more depth to use and by the end of the half had a nine point advantage.
Three periods of good shooting were all the CEU women could manage and the final period of play saw their shooting percent plummet to 33 percent.
Meanwhile. the Badgers were hitting 52 percent of their shots and the game was on.
In the end the CEU defense held and the women pulled out a win by a hair. The final score was 72-71, CEU over Snow.
High scorer in the game was Jana Glover, while Kaylynn Fager again came off the bench to match her with 15 as well.
Fager remains the leading three point shooter for the Eagles hitting three more from downtown on Saturday night.
CEU hopes the momentum will pay off as they now have to travel up to Northern Idaho to play a pair of games.
NIC is currently sitting in first place at 14-2. The Eagles are 16-10 overall. Game time for Friday and Saturday’s games is set for 5:30 p.m. in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
