Helper Junior High’s boys basketball team is wrapping up its season with two final games next week. They are coming off a satisfying defeat of Mont Harmon on Thursday afternoon. Mont Harmon beat Helper earlier this season and so the 45-39 win last week was sweet. Clinton Finkbiner was the leading scorer with 20 points.
Helper is one of the smallest schools competing and everyone who comes out for the team makes it. They also all get a chance to play during the season.
The team is 2-3 in CVAA play. They have lost all their home games but continue to win on the road.
The team will finish up with road games in Altamont and with Canyon view. Tournament play begins the following week.
They are coached by Jim Noyes.
The Mont Harmon Pirates boys basketball team has played four games this season and have won half of them.
Canyon View handily beat the pirates 33-73. Josh Denison of the Pirates scored 7 points.
The Pirates were able to come back and beat Helper Junior High 56-46. Dayton Martindale was leading scored with 16 points.
Mont Harmon also edged out San Rafael Junior High by one with a score of 52-51. Martindale, again, was the leading scorer with 17 points. Blake Najera added 13.
The winning streak came to an end with a second loss to Canyon View 29-41. Blake Najera led the way with 8.
The team is coached by Joe Meana and Tim Tiller.
