Carbon’s Jamie King (20) and Kim Bunnell go up for a rebound during a recent game in Price. The Lady Dinos are presently 2-0 in Region 8 play. |
With a not-so-typical non-stellar preseason behind them (4-6) the Lady Dinos opened region play on the road with an impressive win over Granite High School in Salt Lake last week.
Granite (now 2-9) has not had a strong girls basketball team for many years, but the fact that they were playing their first Region 8 game after moving over from Region 10 this year because of realignment, made it a special game that one would think they would really want to take on their home floor.
But Carbon looked like a team that wants to defend their state championship. The Lady Dinos came out ready to play and took an early lead.
By the end of the half they had doubled up on Granite, leading 20-10 going into the locker room.
Best of all for the Lady Dinos, there was no second half let down as the girls from Carbon County continued to put the pressure on. They out-scored Granite significantly every quarter.
Carbon’s defense was sharp and they held Granite to under 30 points.
Tabby Cummins continued to show she is a team leader with a team high of 11 points. Kim Bunnell added 10.
Megan Garvin hit a pair of threes. Cummins and Meesha Rasmussen each contributed a long ball as well.
