The College of Eastern Utah Women’s Basketball team played in the Dixie Holiday Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. last week and came away with a couple of wins and one loss.
The wins came against Black Hawk East College of Illinois as the Lady Eagles posted a 58-39 win. Then they went on to beat the Nevada All-Stars 52-38.
Their only loss came to Barton County Community College (Kansas) which is currently ranked 18th in the nation in the national junior college poll. They lost to the Lady Cougars 73-52.
The Eagles stayed close in the first half, trailing by eight. In the second half poor shooting by the Eagles did them in. Turnovers were also a problem for the squad as Barton scored 30 points off the turnover on the CEU team.
The Barton team beat three Utah teams in the tournament to improve to 13-1 this season. The Lady Cougars also defeated host Dixie State in the semis by a 79-64 count and then in the finals rallied for a 69-68 overtime win over Salt Lake Community College.
On Dec. 28, CEU got back on track with a victory over BHEC. Krislyn Wallace led the Eagles with 27 points to down BHEC by the score of 58-39. Unlike the day before, the bench got involved in the game, adding 29 points.
The squad took advantage of sloppy play by the Lady Chargers to score 21 points off the turnover. They only allowed eight points to be scored off their turnovers.

The Lady Eagles wrapped up the tournament with a win over the Nevada All-Stars.
The All-Stars had been playing great ball before they ran into the Lady Eagles. Krislyn Wallace was the leading scorer once again for the Golden Eagles with 27 points. Whitney Fardig (26) and Elisha Harris (25) also were hot.
The bench did most of scoring for the team, putting 52 points on the board.
With those wins the Golden Eagle women’s squad is now 10-4 on the season.
CEU will play at home on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. against the College of Southern Idaho, their first Scenic West Athletic Conference game of the new year.
CSI is ranked 10th in the nation in the most recent national poll.
The league is tough this year with a number of teams (including the Lady Golden Eagles) having been ranked this year at one time or another. Dixie and CSI presently have perfect records in the conference (4-0 and 3-0 respectively) with Northern Idaho right behind at 2-1.
SLCC and CEU are tied for the fourth spot with 1-2 records.
Snow is uncharacteristically lodged at the bottom of the standings with Colorado Northwestern.
