Keith Barker lets go of a shot against Park City at the Dinogym on Friday night. Carbon won 74-64.

After letting a 5-0 start to their season slip to a mediocre 5-5 record by last week, the Dino basketball team got back on track with an overtime win against a strong Park City team with a 74-64 overtime victory at the Dinogym on Friday night.
Carbon came out flat in the first quarter and didn’t look ready to place against the Miners. They quickly fell behind 4-17. The kids from Summit County looked ready to roll over the Dinos.
The Dinos called a full time out and Coach Ted Bianco let his players know that their effort was dismal, to say the least. Bianco sat several starters down and put in some younger players who didn’t waste the opportunity to show the coach they were ready to play. By the end of the first quarter the team was back within three.
Jordan Moynier was Carbon’s leading scorer, contributing six of his 15 points in overtime. The Squad stepped up its offense in the second half.
“The team always plays better defense when the offense is sharp,” commented Bianco, after the game.
Friday’s game was an endowment game. The Utah High School Activities Association is attempting to raise a million dollars for an endowment fund to help defray the future rising costs of high school athletic programs. It is optional for a school to participate. Carbon participates in the endowment program in both the football and the basketball programs. Half of all of Friday night’s proceeds, before game expenses, were given to the endowment fund. This allows Carbon to have 23 games in its basketball schedule instead of the minimum 22 games.
Carbon took advantage of the opportunity and put forth a good effort to seal the victory. Bianco felt that Bryan Gazell’s leadership on the floor was a key to the Dino’s taking control of a game that was in serious trouble in the early minutes.
Carbon will host Granite (2-8) on Friday night at home in the first league Region 8 game of the season.
The start time is 7:00 p.m.
