It looks as if Carbon should play all their basketball games against teams from Colorado.
The year started out pretty good, this basketball season did. The Dinos of Carbon High amassed a 5-0 record, with three of those wins against teams from the state to the east. It was the best start in years.
Then came the play against all Utah teams. While the Dinos had defeated Uintah and Union during the win streak, they have fared badly against Beehive state teams since the sqeaker they registered over the Cougars.
And that losing trend continued this past week as the team traveled to Cedar City and took on both Cedar High and Canyon View losing to both those schools. In the end Cedar (2-7) edged the Dinos 55-52, while Canyon View did them in with a 46-34 score.
Against the Redmen on Wednesday night Carbon let themselves fall behind by six points in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw them trading points with Cedar to remain six behind going into the half.
In the second half the Dinos began to make some headway on the deficit, but in the end could not make up enough ground to register the win.

After three games in which the Dinos have faded at towards the end of the game, the squad played hard and had their best scoring effort in some time in the fourth quarter.
Chase Julian was the leading scorer for the Dinos with 12 points. Bryan Gazell and Brandon Wilson each added 9. Wilson hit a pair of threes and Julian and Keith Barker also hit one long ball each.
Against the Falcons, Bryan Gazell’s three point shooting was on fire as he hit three shots from long range. He was also the Dinos leading shooter with 13.
However, it wasn’t enough to lead the Dinos to victory. No one else on the team managed to contribute more than 5 points to the cause.
Now 5-5 on the season, the team again allowed itself to get into a hole early in the game. They trailed by six by the end of the half.
The gap only widened by the end of the third quarter and the team went down to defeat by 12 points.
With the preseason winding up, and league play beginning next week Carbon will face some tough play. The in state teams they have played this year so far have a combined record of 22-31, with Springville, a 4A school having the best record at 6-2. Presently Region 8 teams (besides Carbon) have a record of 24-20, with Juan Diego leading the pack with an 8-1 record and Emery not far behind with a 7-2 mark for the preseason.
Carbon will now resume play on Dec. 30 at home in the Dinogym against Park City, a team that has a 1-8 record.
