Carbon’s Meesha Rasmussen defends a Union player during a game that the Lady Dinos won.

It’s something Carbon girls basketball fans just aren’t used to; a Lady Dino team that is hanging around the .500 mark.
The team also seems to have two personalities.
Some nights they are giant killers which could be witnessed last Tuesday evening when they beat 6-0 Union 50-31.
Other nights they just get killed, like on Dec. 22 when the wheels came off the cart and they were defeated 51-46 by a 4-4 Bear River team.
But then maybe they just haven’t quiet figured their personality out either; that’s what the preseason is for.
On Tuesday a well rested team showed up to play. The Lady Dinos came out on the floor with energy and determination and it paid off in an impressive win over the Lady Cougars who were ranked fourth in the state.
It was Union’s first loss of the season.
Carbon took the early lead and kept pouring on the points. The Dinos have been averaging 35 points per game against their opponents. They shattered that, scoring 50 against a strong opponent.

Danielle Martino fights with a Bear River player for the ball during the game last Thursday night.

And despite the Cougars having two players in the top ten for three point shooting, the Dinos held Union to 31 points. Half of the Lady Cougars points came from beyond the arc. Carbon shut them down on their inside game.
The fourth quarter was the icing on the cake with the Dino defense cracking down. The Cougars could only manage four points against Carbon’s 11.
Tabby Cummins again stepped up to be the leading scorer with 15 points. Meesha Rasmussen was right behind adding 14 to the total. Rasmussen also hit a pair of threes.
Thursdays game was a completely different story.
Still playing at home, first half turnovers doomed the Lady Dinos.
An aggressive Bear River team forced Carbon to turn over the ball often in the first half, allowing the Lady Bears to gain an insurmountable lead by half time. The Dinos trailed them 15 points by the time they went to the locker room.
It also didn’t help that the Lady Bears scorched the home team with their outside shooting. The team from Tremonton shot 6-6 from outside the three point line.
However, the Dinos came out ready to play in the third quarter. They tried to take control of the game in the fourth, outscoring the Bears 20-9. But in the end it was too little, too late. The Dinos fell five short in what would have been a dramatic come back from being 16 down at the end of the third quarter of play.
Cummins continued to remain hot as she led the team in scoring with 11 points and one three pointer. Meesha Rasmussen had eight.
Next up for the Carbon girls will be Snow Canyon, which will come to town on Saturday, New Years Eve. Game time will be at noon in the Dinogym.
Maybe a day game is just what the Lady Dinos need to head into Region 8 to play next week against Granite.
