After last years sweep of both the 3A girls basketball and volleyball crowns, it was expected that this year defense of those trophies would be tough. But the Lady Dinos are tough and in the volleyball season, even though they didn’t win the championship, they proved their worth by taking fifth place.
At the same time, the play of two people on the team was exemplary, earning them a place on the all-state volleyball team.
When the team was announced seniors Jamie King and Brooke Herrick both placed on the team, with King being put on the first team and Herrick making the second squad.
King was one of the keys to last years championship and carried over her dynamic play to this year, averaging 10 kills per game.
Herrick was dubbed “the heart of this team” earlier in the year by Coach Bruce Bean. A top notch setter, she is a player many other schools would give anything to have.

This years first team was dominated by players from Bear River High school, despite the fact that Morgan High won the championship. Two players from that school, Lindsey Frank and Erica Park made the first team.
Also on the first team with King was another Region 8 player, North Sanpete’s Shandi Tucker.
The other two spots were filled by Liz McArthur from Snow Canyon and Breanne Haslam of Morgan. McArthur was the only sophomore on the first team.
Besides Herrick the second team included Jamie Rees of Morgan, Katie Christiansen of Bear River, Brittany Hansen from North Sanpete, Lauren Barney of Hurricane and Cha Jung from Ogden High School.
Carbon did not place anyone on the all-state third team.
Carbon High has placed in the top seven teams in the state playoffs in the last five years, including the one championship and two second place finishes.
