Nancy Bentley of Active Re-Entry accepts a check from Florence Sealey of the United Methodist Women for $1000. The money will be used to help run the Perkie bus that travels from Carbon to Utah County during the next year. The Perkie bus helps in the transportation of ill patients who need specialized treatment at Utah County medical facilities on a regular basis. Last year the bus served 44 people who needed the help.
State Senator Mike Dmitrich, state Representative Brad King, Carbon economic development director Delynn Fielding and Price City community director Nick Tatton stand with Governor John Huntsman’s representative Lester Prall, during the presentation of a check for $50,000 toward the business incubator fund for the area. Fielding said that the state legislature had appropriated $250,000 for rural communities, had 14 applications for the money and awarded six of them, with Carbon getting one of the larger awards. The money will be used to help with education and incubation of new small businesses in the area, as well as the operations at the business resource center.
Jean Semborski of Conoco Phillips passes a check for $2000 to Carbon School District superintendent David Armstrong. The check will help cover some of the cost the district incurs by providing a literacy program for the Carbon County Jail.
