Carbon’s Kim Bunnell calls for the ball during the game against Central High of Colorado at the BDAC.

The Carbon girls basketball team played two games this past week, and as unusual as it may seem, they came out of the two with losses.
After winning the state title last year, Coach Bruce Bean knew the team would be in the learning mode, and learn they have as their season so far shows a 1-2 record.
The first game took place in Heber last Tuesday night when they met up with the Wasatch Lady Wasps. It was a low scoring affair in which Wasatch took Carbon 27-21,
The Lady Dinos trailed the entire game. Karlee Martino led the scoring for the Lady Dinos with 8 points.
Outside shooting helped the Wasps keep control of the game. Carbon didn’t have one player who hit a three point shot, while Wasatch had three players hit the three ball.
Then over the weekend the team played an unusual game in an unusual place.
They took their home court to the BDAC on the College of Eastern Utah campus because both gyms at Carbon High were tied up with the Carbon Duels Wrestling meet.
In the game at the BDAC they met Central High of Grand Junction, Colo. The Lady Dinos took control early and led the entire first half.
Danielle Martino led the scoring for Carbon with 10 points.
Central came out hot for the third quarter to pull within one. The Carbon squad continued to hustle and the game stayed close.
In the fourth quarter it was missed free throws that did the Lady Dinos in.
Megan Garvin hit a pair of threes and Tabby Cummins had one from beyond the arc in a losing effort. Carbons shooting dried up in the fourth quarter as well. The Lady Dinos only managed five points in the final period of play.
Central only scored 10 in the final quarter but it was enough to give them the win over last year’s 3A champs.
The Lady Dino’s will have two home games this week. Uintah will travel to Price to play Carbon on tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. Then on Thursday Spanish Fork will arrive to challenge the Lady Dinos.
