The CEU Golden Eagles Women’s Basketball Team returned Sunday from the College of Southern Idaho Tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho that was held over Thanksgiving weekend.
It was a good weekend for the team. They recorded impressive wins in all three tournament games. CEU beat the Idaho All-Stars 65-52 on Friday night and on Saturday they defeated Arizona Western 66-55. Finally they finished off with a victory over Carl Albert State College of Oklahoma by the score of 70-64
Carl Albert came into the game with a 9-0 record. They had just beaten the College of Southern Idaho by the score of 89-74 when they ran into the defense of CEU. The Lady Eagles out rebounded Carl Albert 46-37. Staci Little pulled in nine rebounds to lead the way. Little came of the bench to score nine points as well.
Elisha Harris scored 17 points to lead the CEU team’s scoring effort. The only other CEU player in double figures for the game was Krislyn Wallace with 11. Kaylynn Fager hit two shots from beyond the three point line.
The CEU Women are 7-1 on the year and begin region play with Dixie College in St. George on Monday. Their only loss of the year so far came against last year’s national championship team, Central Arizona. Central Arizona has been dominating teams so far this year with impressive defeats of Southern Idaho 89-59, and Northern Idaho 95-53, just to name a couple.
The game, played in St. George, pitted the offense of Central Arizona against the defense of CEU. The Lady Eagles held the Central Arizona team that had been averaging 95 points a game to only 58 points. Halee Rasmussen was the leading score for CEU with eight points while Krislyn Wallace led in rebounds with nine.
Coach Dave Paur is excited about the start to the season. He feels that the team is excelling in defense at this early stage of the season. If the team continues to play good defense then this could be an exiting year for the CEU women.
