This weekend 10 wrestling teams from around the state will descend on Carbon High for the annual Carbon Duels wrestling meet.
“It’s always fun hosting this tournament,” said Carbon wrestling coach Dave Smith. “But the more teams you add the more complicated it gets.”
This year teams from Emery, Monticello, Grand, Logan, Milford, Duchesne, Union, Woods Cross and North Sanpete will join Carbon in putting their bodies on the mats to see who is the best.
This meet has become an early December fixture in the state and a lot of teams look forward to it.
As for Carbon’s team, Smith says the chances of the team placing high in state this year will depend on many young wrestlers development.
“We only have one senior and a few juniors,” says Smith. “There are a lot of sophomores and freshmen. It is the youngest team I have had in my 28 years of coaching wrestling. They are working hard and if they continue to do that they will be just fine.”
