Chase Julian (30) and Parker Parsons (35) do a good job of blocking out a Uintah big man as they go for an offensive rebound during last Tuesday nights game. The Dinos won their first home opener in a long time with hustle and good defense.

Despite a small crowd, the Carbon Dino boys basketball team played their hearts out to win their season opener against tough non region rival Uintah.
Both teams had several turnovers before Uintah got on the board with four points. Carbon quickly tied it up and never looked back.
By the end of the first quarter Carbon led by four. Uintah came back and trailed by one point at the half, but Carbon came out of the locker room on fire and got its post game going in the third quarter to pull away for good. Even though Uintah outscored Carbon by three points in the fourth quarter, the damage was done and Carbon held on to a convincing win.
This is the first time Carbon has won their season opener in 5 years.
Four Carbon players scored in double figures. Bryan Gazell, Chase Julian and Parker Parsons each had 12 points and Schyler Namanny added 10. Other scorers include Keith Parker 3, Kyle Assay 2 and Levi Branch with 6. Namanny hit two threes and Gazell hit one from past the three point line.
Rebounding, hustle and good post play proved to be the winning element in this game. Coach Ted Bianco felt like this was one of the best team efforts he has seen from his squad. Leadership from his seniors guided the team. Assay, Parsons, Branch and Stetson Kunz, along with junior Jordan Moynier stepped up at the post and that allowed the guards to score.
When asked who he felt was the outstanding player for this game, Coach Bianco quickly replied that the entire team was the most valuable player. Coach Bianco was very clear about what he thought.
“This was truly a team effort,” he said.
