Carbon County motorists and people traveling across the state are paying less at the pump due to gasoline prices continuing to drop from all time highs.
According to the latest report from AAA Utah, the statewide average price for regular, self-serve in Utah is currently $2.32.
The average statewide per gallon cost is 46 cents lower than the last AAA survey on Oct. 19, but still registers 29 cents higher than this time a year ago.
In Carbon County, the average gasoline price is $2.39 per gallon.
“The decreasing demand is an interesting developing in the gasoline price story this fall,” said Rolayne Fairclough, AAA Utah spokesperson. “According to the U.S. Department of Energy, gasoline consumption is flat compared to this time a year ago. This is significant because fuel consumption has increased one to three percent each year for most of the decade.”
“Motorists are either driving fewer miles or finding ways to improve gasoline mileage,” continued Fairclough. “The decline in sales of large vehicles in October is another indication that motorists took the past high gasoline prices as a wake-up call and fuel economy is a major consideration when purchasing a vehicle. In fact, in a recent survey, 68 percent of AAA Utah members said that their next vehicle will be more fuel-efficient.”
In addition to Carbon County, all of the Utah cities surveyed by AAA reported substantial drops in the average pump prices for regular, self-serve gasoline.
Ogden motorists enjoyed the largest savings, 57 cents from last month’s average.
The current average price in Ogden is $2.20.
Logan’s average price dropped 55 cents to $2.30 per gallon.
The current average price in Salt Lake City is $2.20, a 49-cent decrease from last month’s price.
Moab’s average price dropped 46 cents to the current average price of $2.50.
Provo’s motorists enjoyed a 43-cent decrease in their current average price of gasoline.
The current average price in Provo is now $2.33.
Vernal’s price dropped 40 cents to the new average price of $2.46.
St. George experienced a 39-cent decrease in the average price of gasoline.
The current average price in St. George is $2.47.
Motor travel throughout the Intermountain West is improving as far as gasoline prices are concerned as costs continue to drop, indicated the AAA Utah spokesperson.
Idaho’s average price dropped 43 cents to the current average of $2.41.
Montana’s price also dropped 43 cents.
The current average price in Montana is $2.29.
Wyoming’s price dropped 44 cents to the new average $2.34.
Colorado motorists saw a 40 cent drop to the current average price of $2.39.
Arizona’s motorists are currently paying $2.49 a gallon, a 34 cent decrease from October’s average price.
Nevada’s current average price for regular, self-serve is $2.51, a 34-cent decrease from last month.
California’s current average price $2.58 is 34 cents less than October’s average.
As prices continue to change, local consumers can save money on fuel by shopping aggressively for the lowest price, advised the AAA Utah representative.
AAA’s fuel gauge report is a comprehensive retail gasoline survey, with more than 85,000 self-serve stations contacted daily nationwide.
