Herman Pollaehne


ORANGEVILLE – Herman Wolfgang Pollaehne, age 74, passed away Nov. 6, 2005 in a Springville nursing home where he has spent the last four and one half years.
He was born in Berlin, Germany, March 26, 1931 where he spent many hair-raising experiences during World War II. He sailed out of Hamburg, Germany, as a young member of the German Merchant Marines and traveled the seven seas.
In September of 1955 he immigrated to America. While crossing the Atlantic on a passenger boat, he met his future wife, Ruth. They were married in October of 1956.
He was drafted in the U.S. Army and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spending most of his time near Stuttgart, Germany. Herm and Ruth have two children, son, Andy who teaches science at Canyon View Junior High School and has four boys, Matthew, Nathan, Cannon and Tanner. Daughter, DoraLynne, lives in the Portland, Ore., area with her husband, Don LaMunyon, they have three boys and a girl, Stephen, Alex, Krista and Thomas.
After Herm’s Army time, he and Ruth settled in Salt Lake City and became active in the LDS Church. Herm became a factory-trained auto mechanic. After a few years he opened his own shop which he called “Herm’s Car Repair.”
After a fire destroyed the shop in the 70s, they moved to Orangeville to start over. Orangeville became their home. Herm became sick in 1994 and in 2001 he entered the nursing home.
He is preceded in death by two younger brothers, Horst and Jerry Pollaehne.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 10, noon, at the Orangeville 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, located below the high school in Castle Dale and the viewing will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Orangeville Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.


Kelly Pons


WEST VALLEY CITY – In loving memory of our beloved brother, Kelly (Catman) Pons, age 46, who died of a heart attack traveling from Salt Lake City to Reno, Nev. on a train where he survived a heart attack a month earlier.
Born April 30, 1959 in Orange, Calif., to Arlene and Dutch Pons, both deceased.
He was a gold miner, coal miner and stone mason. He loved cats. He boarded the train and went straight to heaven.
Survived by third wife, Marjene Pons, West Valley City; no children; sisters, Linda Pons (Steve Pons) West Valley City; Gloria Rhoten, (Sterling Miller), Helper; Becky Knowels, West Valley City; brothers, Mitchel (Terry) Pons, Sandy; Chris Pons, Salt Lake City.


Leo Espinosa


SALT LAKE – Leo Espinosa passed away Nov. 7, 2005 following a prolonged lung illness.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1917 the son of Leo Sr. and Rosa Leos Espinosa. Leo married Vera Monsen in June 1941 and their marriage was later solemnized on Dec. 6, 1974 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He attended school in Carbon County, where he was later employed in the areas coal mines for 25 years. He and his family moved to Salt Lake City where he retired after 22 years of employment with Kennecott Copper Co.
Leo was well known to family and friends as a hard working man. He loved fishing and hunting in the Utah mountains and streams. Leo’s family is very proud of the fact that he spent three and one half years over seas in the 9th Air Force European Theatre during World War II having landed on Omaha beach and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Leo and Vera are the parents of five children, two of who preceded him in death, Robert Dean and Randall Kirk, and the remaining children, Leo Kenneth (Becky), Delana (Fred Al Cleveland) and Scott. He had 12 brothers and sisters, five of whom are still living, Isabell, Rosalie, Louie, Manual and Mary. He also has 11 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 11 at 2:30 p.m., at Wasatch Lawn Memorial where friends may call on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Genevive Mascarenas


PRICE – Rejoice and remember Genevive Molly Meza Mascarenas, the loving daughter of Marlana Meza and Abel Mascarenas.
Grandparents are Henry and Dora Smith and Isaias and Mary Meza.
Graveside services for Genevive will be Saturday, Nov. 12, 11 a.m., at Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
