The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum plans to open an exhibit displaying the work of local artist Cliff Green on Friday.
The exhibit will run from Nov. 11 through the end of the year.
In early 2002, Green completed a large commission for the museum.
The artist sculpted and painted nine dinosaurs at one-tenth scale.
The sculptures have included the regional finds Eolambia caroljonesi, Utahraptor ostrommaysorum, Cedarpelta bilbeyhallorum, Gastonia burgei, Animantarx ramaljonesi and Nedcolbertia justinhoffmani.
The commission also included the new unnamed iguanodont, “super nodosaur,” and brachiosaur.
“Green has done as much as anyone to bring the dinosaurs of Eastern Utah to life,” said Christine Trease, director of public relations for the museum.
For longer than a decade, Green has specialized in creatingart portraying extinct animals.
Since June 1999, the local artist has designed and sculpted numerous pieces.
Two bas reliefs, Tyrannosaurus rex and Camarasaurus lentus were created for the North American Museum of Ancient Life in Lehi.
In addition, Green has sculpted 15 full-sized Jurassic pterosaurs for the same museum ranging in height from 18 inches to six feet.
Dozens of the sculptures now hang from the prehistoric museum’s ceilings.
Two of the local artist’s bronzes are currently on permanent display at the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis, Ind., with the work of John Lazendors.
The pieces were featured in a book released in 2000 titled “Dinosaur Imagery, The Lazendorf Collection.”
Four years ago, Green completed an assignment from the Discovery Channel for the television station’s documentary, “When Dinosaurs Roamed America.”
The documentary aired in July 2001 and featured seven sculptures: Triceratops, Torosaurus, Einosaurus, Centrosaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, Zuniceratops and the gigantic pterosaur, Quetzalcoatlus.
A later documentary by the Discovery Channel, “Dinosaur Planet,” featured the artist’s same work.
Green ‘s work has been featured in various fine art galleries, and has received the Best of Show award in the professional category at the Utah State Fair for four years running.the Utah Counsel for the Arts has asked Green by to return as the working artist at the Utah State Fair in 2005, for the fifth year in a row.
In 2004 Green finished two small full-scale feathered dinosaurs for the Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden and completed a full-sized 22-foot Pteranodon ingens sculpture for the Dinosaur Walk outside of New York, N.Y. Additionally, he sculpted four six-foot full-scale velociraptors for The Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden and The Nature’s Dinosaur Park, in rural Connecticut.
