Danielle Martino (21) and Amie Stewart (20) block a hit by a North Sanpete player during a game earlier last week. The Lady Dinos wrapped up the regular season by defeating Juan Diego 3-1 this past Tuesday night.

The Carbon High Lady Dinos volleyball team wrapped up the regular season by defeating Juan Diego, 3-1 on October 18 By defeating the Soaring Eagles, Carbon finished the season 8-2 in the Region 8 standings.
The victory against Juan Diego came after a disappointing loss to the Emery High the week before.
The Emery game was a close one with the Dinos losing 3-2. Carbon bounced back from the upset by handing Juan Diego a 25-19 loss in the first two sets and a 25-17 loss in the fourth set. The Dinos did lose the third set to the Eagles, 26-24.
According to Carbon’s head coach, Bruce Bean, the Lady Dinos stepped up and played hard against the visiting Juan Diego team.
“This game was won because of a total team effort,” stated the coach. “We lost our focus a bit against Emery and even a little bit against Juan Diego. That’s something we look to work on in the next few days.”
Next on the Lady Dinos schedule is the state tournament which will take place October 27-28. Carbon will face Union in their first game at the tourney. This game will take place at 2 p.m. at Utah Valley State College in Orem.
“We have played Union already this year and we won,” explained Bean. “They have a great hitter on their team, but if we show up and play hard we can beat them again.”
The Lady Dinos go into the state tournament as defending champions. Bean feels that his team can successfully defend their title if they stay focused. According to the Dino’s coach, the bracket in which Carbon is playing should work to the teams advantage.
Carbon will take the rest of this week and the beginning of next to prepare for the state tourney. With athletes that are skilled and determined, Carbon High has a good chance of adding a second consecutive state volleyball trophy to their display case.
