The Carbon High Dino’s cross country teams competed on October 12 at the Region 8 championship at North Sanpete High School. Both the girls and the boys teams performed well however, the girls missed advancing to the state finals by only four points and the boys missed out by one point.
The top finisher for the girls was Paige Morley who placed 16th overall. Morley was followed by Katie Hobbs who finished in 19th place and Mikka Pendergrass who placed 23rd.
Katie Palmer nears the finish line during a cross country race earlier this year. Palmer and the rest of the Carbon High girls cross country team competed at the region finals last week and missed qualifying for the state meet by four points. |
Ninth grade runners, Rebecca Goodrich and Katie Palmer also had a good showing by placing 31st and 39th respectively.
Carbon senior, Ashley Anderson placed 33rd in the region finals meet.
The Carbon boys team was led by Paul Goodrich who finished second overall. Because of Goodrich’s strong finish, he will now advance to the state finals next week. Goodrich will be the only Dino to compete at this meet.
Jacob Perez placed 15th at the region meet while Kent Olson finished in 19th place. Beau Morley placed 30th and Brett Wells finished in 34th place.
Jared Richens placed 38th at the region meet and was the only ninth grade boy who ran for the Dinos.
According to coach Stewart Foster, most of the boys ran personal best times, but the team as a whole fell short of qualifying for the state team by only one point.
Carbon Dino team members, Katie Hobbs and David Youso were both awarded certificates at the Region 8 meet for making the academic all region team.
