Brooke Herrick sets up the ball for Danielle Martino during a home game last Tuesday night. The defending state champion Dinos easily defeated the struggling Granite Farmers, 3-0.

The Carbon High Lady Dinos volleyball team easily defeated Granite last Tuesday night. During the game, Carbon proved why they are defending state champions.
Although Granite has not won a game this season, Dinos head coach, Bruce Bean explained that the Farmers have improved since their last meeting.
“The team has had a new coach step up and make some big changes. But their program has not had a lot of interest and that makes it tough to be a good team,” explained Bean.
Even though the Farmers had not won a game during the season, Bean demanded that his team step up and not take Granite lightly.
“It’s sometimes hard to prepare for a team like this,” Bean commented. But the Lady Dinos had no trouble handing Granite another loss by the final 3-0.
Carbon opened up the first set by defeating the Farmers, 25-13. In the second set, the Dinos served Granite a 25-10 loss. Finally, in the third set, Carbon beat the visiting team, 25-17,
Next on the Dinos schedule is Delta. Carbon will hit the road to take on the fourth ranked Region 8 team. Following this match up, the Dinos will return home to play North Sanpete, the only team who has defeated Carbon this year and who is currently ranked number one in the region with a 6-0 record.
“It’s a rematch of sorts for us,” Bean explained. “North Sanpete beat us earlier in the year, but I know that we can defeat them.”
With the state playoffs lingering, Carbon looks to better their 5-1 region record. By doing so, this will give the Dinos an upper hand in the upcoming state tourney. With last year’s state championship still fresh on everyone’s minds, Carbon looks to bring home the title for the second year in a row.
