Mary Katsavrias
PRICE – Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and devoted friend, Mary Kournianos Katsavrias, age 86, passed from this world on Sept. 29, 2005 while in the Parkdale Care Center in Price.
Born Nov. 10, 1918 in Mohrland, to Emmanuel Kournianakis and Despina Spadithakis. Married Nick Katsavrias on Sept. 5, 1937 in Price. He died Jan. 16, 1978.
Mary was an active member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and occupied various positions in the Cretan Club, Daughters of Penelope and Philoptoptochos. She was a faithful volunteer who gave countless hours towards the Greek Festival and other church services.
She enjoyed helping widows and shut-ins who had difficulty getting around and caring for many ladies in the area who didn’t drive.
During her retirement years, she enjoyed cooking, baking and caring for her flower and vegetable garden. She looked forward to holidays and spending them with family. Mary was held in high esteem by all who knew her and she was considered an honorary grandmother by many children in the community.
She is survived by daughter, Bessie (Steve) Grillos, Modesto, Calif.; Gust (Sharon) Katsavrias, Price; grandchildren, Pete Pappas, Modesto, Calif.; Mike Pappas, Reno, Nev.; Holly Fakklis, Stockton, Calif.; Stephanie Giahos, Modesto, Calif.; Billie Papasifakis, Troy, Mich.; and seven grandchildren. Mary was the second born of seven children that include Antonette Salevurakis, Tony (Catherine) Kournianos, both of Salt Lake City; and sister-in-law, Mary Kourianos, Price. Preceded in death by sisters, Helen Manousakis, Angelina Pace; brother, Emanuel (Mike); infant brother, Michael; and son-in-law, Pete Pappas.
Funeral service was Monday, Oct. 3 at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Trisagion service was Sunday evening at Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 688, Price, UT 84501.
Frank Oviatt
CLEVELAND – Frank Owen Oviatt, 77, passed away Sept. 30, 2005 at his home in Cleveland.
He was born Sept. 7, 1928 in Elmo to Wilford F. and Ella Minchey Oviatt. He married Marie Oveson in Cleveland Feb. 16, 1952.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army where he distinguished himself, earning a Purple Heart.
Frank enjoyed carpentry and camping in the outdoors. He enjoyed playing games and especially enjoyed Little League ball games. He was a member of the LDS church. Frank’s greatest joy was in spending time with his family.
He is survived by loving wife, Marie; children, Earl (Sandra) Oviatt, Sheldon (Gloria) Oviatt, Shirlee (Von) Bell, Larry Oviatt, and Kirk Oviatt; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Lavon (Lawella) Oviatt; and sister, Rissa Staker. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Venice Cramer and LaRee Vogrinec; and brother Cleland Oviatt.
Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Cleveland 2nd Ward LDS Chapel. Friends may call Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South, Price one hour prior to services. Interment to follow in the Cleveland Cemetery.
Leonda Hanson
PRICE – Leonda Wyman Hanson Carpenter, age 91, passed away Sept. 28, 2005 at the Uintah Basin Care Center.
Born Feb. 9, 1914 in Santaquin, to Charles and Mary Powers Wyman. Married Joseph Leon Hanson Aug. 1928 in Price; he died Sept. 1, 1961. Married Lynn Carpenter; he later died.
Survived by daughter, Betty Joe VanLinden, Michigan; sons, C. Gary (Frances) Hanson, Spring Glen; Robert N. (Lois) Hanson, Vernal; Raymond B. (Glenna) Hanson, Kenilworth; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by sons, Jerry Hanson and Bert L. Hanson; husbands, Joseph Leon Hanson and Lynn Carpenter; and brothers and sisters.
Graveside service was Saturday, Oct. 1, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Ferris Bradfield
CASTLE DALE/NORTH SALT LAKE – Ferris Bradfield, loving father, uncle and friend, returned to our Father in Heaven on Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 in Salt Lake City. He was 96 years old.
Dad was born July 10, 1909 in Levan, the son of Franklin and Ethel Strange Bradfield. He married his sweetheart, Gladys (Gay) Williams on June 3, 1938 in the Manti LDS Temple. She passed away October 9, 1999.
He attended school in Sigurd. He worked as a boy and young man in the beet fields and farms in Sigurd. Ferris and Gay lived in Sigurd, Cedar City and Castle Dale in the early part of their marriage.
Ferris worked in the Huntington Canyon coal mine for seven years. They moved to Logan, where he was employed by Utah State University for 28 years.
Ferris and Gay retired in Scofield, where he served in the LDS branch presidency for a number of years. He was very active in the LDS church serving as scoutmaster, ward and financial clerk, music director, and counselor in the branch presidency.
His hobbies included singing, reading, painting ceramics, and gardening. They later moved to North Salt Lake to be near their daughter and he enjoyed the community and all the members of his ward.
He is survived by daughter, Janet Gay Bradfield; brothers, Eldon (Sarah), Ralph; sister, Beth; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, Gladys Bradfield; brothers, Murwin, Norris; and sister, Velma.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 5, 11 a.m., at the Camelot LDS Ward Building, 3317 South 800 West, North Salt Lake, where friends may call prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at the Logan City Cemetery.
Gilbert Richins
CLEVELAND – Gilbert Warren “Bert” Richins, 64, passed away Sept. 28, 2005 at his home in Cleveland, with family around him.
He was born Sept. 20, 1941 in Murray, to Warren Ford and Clare Heiner Richins. He married Jedie Mae Stevenson July 11, 1970 in Elko, Nev. and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple July 11, 1978. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He will be greatly missed by family cats, Moke, Shadow, Sassy and Toby, who gave him so much joy.
He is survived by wife of 35 years, Jedie Mae; children, Patsy, Ronald, Raymond (Kris), JoAnn (Randy), Shirley (Ron), Sherry (Tony) and Douglas; grandchildren, Anthony, Jesse, Angelo, Tony Jr., Michael, Amber and Rachel. Also survived by brothers, Jim and Brad; sisters, Kathy (Charlie) and Karleen; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by parents; and brothers, Jack and Greg.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 3, in the Cleveland LDS 1st Ward Chapel. Burial, Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
