Carbon golf team looks to state

The Carbon High School golf team finished the regular season on Tuesday on a high as they finished in first place at the final region match held at Sunset View Golf Course in Delta. The team finished the year in third place overall and will compete at the 3A State Golf Tournament to be held at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George on Oct. 5 and 6.
The team has been playing well the last three matches of the year as they finished in third place at Millsite but they were only two shots out of first place.
Last week they tied for first at Pallisades with Juan Diego and this week finished on top all alone.The team total of 331 at Millsite left the team two shots behind both Juan Diego and Delta who finished with a team score of 329. The team leaders were Jason Child with an 81, Chase Julian with an 81, Hunter King with an 84 and Praween Ngamketkamol (Ween who is a foreign exchange student from Thailand) with an 85.
The following week at Pallisades Golf Course the team total of 314 put the team in a first place tie with Juan Diego. The team scores were Kevin Johnson with a 76, Hunter King with a 76, Chase Julian with an 81 and Ween with an 81.
This week the team total of 312 put the team in first place by themselves. Individual leaders were Houston Lui with a 76, Chase Julian with a 78, Ween with a 78 and Shayne Burke with an 80.
Team members this year were Jake Erramouspe, Bart Hansen, Chase Julian, Hunter King and Houston Lui, all seniors.
The juniors were Kyle Asay, Thomas Etzel, Brett Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Ween, and Steven Scow.
The sophomores include Shayne Burke, Jason Child, Ryan Nelson, Dylan Olson and Cody Timothy,
The team also had three freshmen and they were Nick Child, Josh Erramouspe and Kris Hyde.
Only six players from each team are able to qualify to play at the state tournament. Those players are Shayne Burke, Chase Julian, Ween, Hunter King, Bart Hansen and Brett Johnson with Houston Lui being the first alternate. The state tournament will begin on Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. in St. George.
