Letter to the Editor: Evolution wins, Utah loses

By Sun Advocate

On Aug. 26 Governor Huntsman issued a statement opposing intelligent design (the science that shows facts supporting a creation of mankind rather than random mutation as the origin of man) being taught in science.
“It is a science class, I would expect my kids in science class to be instructed in those things that are somewhat quantifiable and based on thorough and rigorous empirical research” he said suggesting that the idea God created man is not science quantifiable or based on empirical research.
The Utah Board of Education quickly followed up the governor’s statement on Sept. 2 approving a position rejecting intelligent design and supporting the continual exclusive teaching of evolution in state classrooms. They refused to allow any arguments supporting intelligent design and based their decision on arguments like the one coming from Duane Jeffery, a Brigham Young University biology professor, who put the science that God created man in the same category as “astrology and pyramid power” (Salt Lake Tribune, Sept. 2).
For evolution to have such a grasp on Utah’s leaders one must wonder if any of them have ever studied the proven frauds, gaps, misjudgments, mix-ups, and ever changing doctrines of evolution. Rather than completely bowing before the god of evolution you would hope our leaders might at least consider teaching evolution with disclaimers like those that follow.
First, for forty years evolutionists best and brightest believed that (piltdownman) a human skull plate found with the jaw bone of an ape was the missing link. That is until later tests proved the teeth on the jawbone had been filed down to make it appear to be a transitional fossil.
Second, DNA evidence is making a mockery of evolution. For example in Park, Pa., a team of U.S. and German researchers has extracted mitochondrial DNA from Neanderthal bone showing that the Neanderthal DNA sequence falls outside the normal variation of modern humans.
“These results indicate that Neanderthals did not contribute mitochondrial DNA to modern humans,” says Dr. Mark Stoneking, associate professor of anthropology at Penn State. “Neanderthals are not our ancestors.”
Third, many evolutionists consider their strongest evidence, the Taung child which resembles and was recovered more like a sculpture (taking away the stone that didn’t fit the desired picture) than a fossilized skull.
These are the types of evidence evolution was built on. Do you really think that the handful of skull fragments used today as links are free from the fraud and manufacture of evolutionists? We should all keep in mind that master forgers armed with modern technology have made frauds that have fooled experts in many fields.
It is evolutionists that believe evolution took place in small incremental steps over many years. While evolutionists would keep us busy believing all they need to find is one credible missing link between man and ape, those who understand what the theory suggests are wondering why no one is finding much when there should be thousands of stages leading up to apes and then up to man that would have to be found in the fossil record in order to prove evolution actually occurred.
“I will lay it on the line,” says Colin Patterson, senior paleontologist at the British Museum of Natural History. “There is not one such fossil for which one could make a watertight argumentIt is easy enough to make up stories of how one form gave rise to another…. But such stories are not part of science, for there is no way of putting them to the test. ….” (Harpers, Feb.1984, p.56).
Extinction is a real part of provable science. As you know in the time you have been reading this letter another plant, animal, or insect has become extinct. In actual observed science none of these species have ever evolved into something else, nor have they had off spring that evolved into something else, They are extinct. Showing us ancient skull fragments of apes etc. that are extinct actually provides no provable evidence at all of evolution for there is no way of putting them to the test. The one that could be tested because of it’s age (DNA testing of Neanderthal) proved to be another false link. Without credible fossil evidence evolution is nothing more than a rejection of God and the overwhelming scientific evidence that mankind is his creation.
If our leaders won’t study the history of the theory of evolution at least they could consider studying United States history. They might then realize that liberal activist judges who reinterpreted the constitution and removed God and prayer from schools were not following the intent of America’s founders. They might also realize if they check the facts, that since God has been removed America has gone into a downward spiral of moral decline (see the stats in William Murray’s book Let Us Pray).
One other small thing you might consider. Jesus said: ” If you deny me before men, I will deny you before my Father.”
