Marie Cook
PRICE/HOLLADAY – Jane Marie Rasmussen Cook, age 85, passed away peacefully in Provo Sept. 1, 2005 with loved ones at her side. Despite the debilitating effects of a stroke in 1997 that left her with dementia, Maria always graciously greeted family and friends with a smile and a twinkle in her eye. She had a great affection for little children and was thrilled to be among them.
She was born March 31, 1920 in Price to Lawrence M. and Mary Jane Olsen Rasmussen. During wartime she married Jack N. Cook June 16, 1943. Later she was sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to her loving compaion of 61 years.
She was a special friend to her older sister, Jessie. She was a creative homemaker and became expert at decorating cakes and dipping chocolates. She loved to entertain and was a hard worker, having been employed most of her life. She was a whiz at shorthand and amazed us just recently with her talent. She and Jack loved to travel, taking souvenir photos from coast to coast. Her many years of service in the Relief Society gave her great pleasure. She was a sensitive and generous person, spending many holidays and birthdays with her nieces and nephews who affectionately called her Mimi.
Survived by nephew, Richard and Maureen Holdaway and their children, Laurie and Chris Meacham, Kristin and Ben Francis, David and Jessie Holdaway, Brian and Jessica Holdaway and Mark Holdaway. Other nieces and nephews, Art Rasmussen, Dorothy Hackwell, Helen Jean Platis, Ruth Buchanan, Paulette Harte, Paul Naturale Jr., Candace Hsiao, and numerous others. Sisters-in-law, Norma Rasmussen and Sybil Howard and brother-in-law Paul C. Naturale. Preceded in death by husband, Jack; brothers, Arthur and Morris Rasmussen; and sisters, Jessie R. Holdaway, Beverly Holbrook and Barbara Naturale.
Funeral services will be at Cottonwood Memoral Mortuary, 4670 S. Highland Drive, Holladay, Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour before the service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.

Corinne Jones
CASTLE DALE – Corinne Linda Jones, age 65, passed away Sept. 3, 2005 in Castle Dale.
Corinne was born Sept. 28, 1939 in Fresno, Calif., the daughter of Farrell and Juanita Nance. She married Jack W. Jones Dec. 4, 1981.
Corinne enjoyed gardening, traveling, hunting trips with family and the many years she spent farming with her sweetheart.
Corinne is survived by husband of 23 years, Jack; father, Farrell (June) Nance, Stilwell, Okla.; children, Ron Firm, Grand Junction, Colo.; Kendra (Jared) Stagg, Denver, Colo.; stepchildren, Ronda (Kelly) LeRoy, Castle Dale; Cheyenne (Travis) Turner, Price; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Kent (Sharon) Nance, Stilwell, Okla; sister, Janice (Don) Price, Stilwell, Okla.; also aunts Billie and Eleanor; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by mother, Juanita Nance; son, Farrell Firm; and stepson, Dale W. Jones.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m., at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center, 33 East Main. Interment, Castle Dale City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

Gary Stam
HELPER/HOUSTON, Texas – Gary Lynn Stam, age 46, passed away Aug. 29, 2005 in Houston, Texas, from injuries received in an auto-pedestrian accident.
He was born Nov. 27, 1958 in Salt Lake City to Frank and Carol June Butterfield Stam.
Gary was a loving and caring person who always had a special way with people. He enjoyed visiting, traveling to far away places and making new friends. Gary liked sports and his favorite football team was the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed music, the color blue and drawing funny cartoon characters.
Survived by son, Adam Stam, Salt Lake City; father, Frank Stam, Helper; sister, Kathy (Bret) Densley, Helper; brothers, Dennis (Desire) Stam, Ogden; Randy (Sandy) Stam, Idaho; and sister, Debbie Holt, Draper. Preceded in death by mother, Carol June Stam.
Funeral service Saturday, Sept. 10, 2 p.m., at Helper LDS Stake Center. Family will be at the church Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Mitchel Funeral Home.
Maxine Bryner
PRICE – Maxine Holden Bryner, 84, passed away Sept. 6, 2005 in Price.
Born Oct. 3, 1920 in Salt Lake City to John William and Hannah Bean Holden. Married William Holly Bryner in Price on June 13, 1941, marriage solemnized Sept. 30, 1941 in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1974.
Member of the LDS Church and held many callings throughout her long life. Maxine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family immensely. She was a refined and artistically talented lady. An expert seamstress, she also enjoyed making quilts for family, friends and service projects. Skilled in making intricate ceramic and porcelain figurines, she taught classes on these subjects for many years. She was a well-known artist and her oil paintings and watercolors are displayed coast to coast. Maxine was active in civic affairs, being instrumental in starting the Sand and Sage Art Club and teaching art in the Adult Education Program. She also taught homemaking skills in the 4-H program for 10 years.
Survived by two sons, Collin (Barbara) of Richland, Wash.; Barry (RaNae) of Draper; two daughters, Ellen (John) Serfustini, Sherryl Bryner of Price; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Paul Holden; and one sister, Eveline Jane (Jennie) Harmon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 10, 11 a.m., at the Price 4th Ward LDS Church, 545 E. 400 North. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fausett Mortuary, 680 E. 100 South, Price and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Price City Cemetery.
James Carter
EAST CARBON/WALES – James Clair Carter, age 85, died at home in Wales Sept. 3, 2005 due to complications of a stroke.
He was born Dec. 14, 1919 in Fountain Green, the son of Arthur Elmer Carter and Sarah Eliza Holman Carter. He married Bernita Everts Carter July 8, 1940, she died June 6, 1999. Married Anita Lamb of Wales on Feb. 11, 2000.
Worked at Horse Canyon Coal Mine for 36 years. Was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America for most of those years.
He loved the outdoors and collected rocks and arrowheads. Spent much of his spare time camping in Utah, the neighboring states, and his cabin located in Joes Valley.
Was always called the Wagon Master by relatives and friends. He led convoys of campers and trailers to his special places of interest for years. He was well known for his storytelling and robust laughter.
He is survived by wife, Anita; children, Sylvia (Cody) Leek, West Valley; Steven (Maggie) Carter, Mesquite; and Loralie Carter, West Valley. Also survived by four grandchildren, Rodney Leek, Tracy Brown, Troy Leek and Kandi Sant, and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by Anita’s children, Burnell (Elena) Bowers, DeLos (Jo) Bowers, Jack (Jackie) Bowers, Marshal (Charlie) Eppler, Karen (Sherwood) Whitlock, Bonnie (Bill) Ormand and Ron (Nicole) Lamb. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Bernita; brothers, Stan, Gerald, Lester; sisters, Reva Swensen and Fern Francom.
The family would like to express our appreciation to the Central Valley Medical Center Hospice staff, especially Tiffany Hurst, Deniece Winnie and Kris Cropper, for their loving dedication and care for Clair and Anita.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Sanpitch LDS Ward Chapel, in Wales. A viewing will be held at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment, Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.
