On the afternoon of Aug. 26, Troy Allen Williams, 43, was arrested on charges of aggravated arson and aggravated assault after an alleged standoff with local law enforcement officers at an apartment building in Price.
Price city police officers along with Carbon County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene after reports were made that Williams had allegedly brandished a knife and threatened the lives of several residents and employees at the Mountain View Meadows housing complex in Price.
When officers arrived on the scene, Williams purportedly locked himself inside his apartment at the complex.
The subject reportedly refused to respond to the orders of local law enforcement to come out of the apartment.
While officers tried to negotiate with Williams, the suspect allegedly started a fire inside the apartment, endangering his life along with the lives of other residents of the apartment building.
To protect the safety of the residents of the building, officers were forced to enter Williams’ smoke-filled apartment, according to the incident report.
Upon entering the subject’s apartment, law enforcement encountered Williams, who was allegedly still brandishing a knife and refusing to comply with the orders given by the officers on scene.
Williams was taken into custody after the law enforcement officers at the scene deployed a taser electro-muscular disruption device or high power stun gun to subdue the suspect.
Williams was arrested and booked into the Carbon County Jail on an aggravated arson charge for purportedly starting the fire inside the apartment and aggravated assault for allegedly brandishing a weapon at neighbors and employees of the housing complex.
Price Police Officer Kevin Mele acted as the arresting officer in the case. Mele was assisted by fellow Officers Dennis Christensen and Robb Radley. No law enforcement personnel were injured during the arrest of Williams.
The apartment in which Williams resided received substantial smoke and fire damage during the Aug. 26 incident.
