Danielle Martino goes in to spike the ball over the net and onto the court during a game against Uintah on Tuesday.

Carbon High’s volleyball team may not have the same players they did last year but still seems to be the 3A leader. This is especially obvious after Tuesday’s matches against Uintah.
Tuesday night started out with a sophomore win 3-1 and a junior varsity loss of 1-3, but the night ended great after an outstanding set of games played by the Lady Dinos varsity team.
The varsity team played exceptional and looked like they completely dominated the court in Tuesday’s game at Carbon High School.
The Lady Dinos quickly took the lead in the first match against Uintah’s varsity team. When the game was over, it was no doubt who would be in the lead, taking the win.
The second game was just as thrilling as the previous, the Lady Dinos jumping ahead with points. Every player seemed to be right on when it came to hitting the ball over the net.
Both game one and two ended in over 10 point leads over the opposing Uintah team.
As game three started up, the Uintah Utes seemed to be bitter from the previous losses and finally kicked it into gear against the Dinos.
For the first time in the match, the Utes pulled ahead in the game.
Game four seemed to follow the same pattern as game three, Utes trying to pull themselves out of a loss.
By the end of the night it was definitely going to be the Dinos bringing home the win. Carbon managed to win three out of four games against Uintah even after the Utes rallied back after game two.
The Utes are not one of the top teams this year, leaving Carbon to see who will be the one to beat when it comes time for the region and state championship games in November.
The only team that looks to be a hard one to beat in the region may just be Juan Diego. The private school of Juan Diego was just moved up to a 3A team and into Carbon’s region this year.
They may have a good team this year with several returning players that are incredibly talented. It is obvious that Juan Diego has no problem dominating and winning, but in their first year as a 3A team it may be nearly impossible for them to take down the state championship powerhouse of Carbon High.
One team that looks to be in opposition of Carbon’s second year as state champion is going to be Morgan.
Morgan came close to taking down Carbon last year in the championship games, but was handed second place after some incredible offensive and defensive playing by the tough girls of Carbon High.
The next game coming up for Carbon will be against Union in an away game.
Union is currently holding the number one spot in region 10 with three wins total and just one loss against their record.
Union may play hard against other 3A teams but chances are they will be overcome by the talented state champion Lady Dinos when they try.
Up next for Carbon after Union will be Wasatch on September 6 in another away game.
