Gene Talbot
FERRON – Gene G. Talbot, age 84, passed away peacefully Aug. 12, 2005 in Bountiful.
He was born April 18, 1921 in Yukon, Idaho, to Alfred Newell and Katie Guymon Talbot. Gene married Virginia Kibbler Nov. 2, 1945 in California and whatever they did, they did together.
He was a member of the Local 354 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 58 years.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II, was a member of the American Legion in Ferron and was also a member of the LDS church.
Gene loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. Most of all, he was an avid rock hound as well as well as an accomplished silversmith.
He also enjoyed being a cartoonist, leaving his mark at every jobsite.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn “Kathie” Bird of Taylorsville; son-in-law, Stephen Bird of LaVerkin; two grandchildren and their spouses, Gena and Kory Brower and Greg and Laura Bird; and five great-grandchldren, Joel, Kyle, Ashlee, Jacee and Sheridan. Susan Christensen has been like a second daughter to Gene and Virginia. Preceded in death by wife and one great-granddaughter, Sydnee.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, 11 a.m. in the old Ferron LDS Chapel, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Ferron cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped in his care, especially Pat, Amber, Bert, Marylou and Lynette.
Marion Hansen
HELPER – Longtime Carbon County resident, Marion (Dick) Hansen, age 82, passed away Aug. 12, 2005 in Salt Lake City from natural causes.
He was born Nov. 10, 1922 in Spring Glen, to Laura Cook and Hyrum Hansen. He married Velma Powell in 1946, they later divorced. Married Caecilia King Nov. 26, 1955 in Helper. She died Aug. 27, 2004.
Member of the Catholic church. Served in the United States Army during World War II.
Dick loved to laugh, talk and dance. In his later years you could find him at the Price senior citizen center for lunch and dances. He will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by son, Michael (Marsha) Hansen; daughter, April (Howard) Roberts; stepson, Joseph (Sheri) Hansen; sister, Larene Fossat; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service Tuesday evening, 7 p.m., at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony’s Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Julia Bond
EVANSTON, Wyo. – Julia Kay Bond, 30, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunties, and friend passed away Aug. 13, 2005 in Ogden as a result of injuries sustained in a skydiving accident.
She was born Aug. 4, 1975 in Salt Lake City, the daughter of James L. and Bonnie (Leavitt) Bennion Straw. On Nov. 19, 1994, she married Justin Lee Bond in Evanston, Wyo.
She was an active member of the LDS Church. She was full of life and especially loved activities with her family and friends. She was a loving homemaker and brought joy to everyone she met.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, camping, reading, swimming and most of all spending time with her husband, children and her family.
Surviving are her husband, Justin; children, Isaac and Kaylee Bond, all of Evanston, Wyo.; mother, Bonnie (Chuck) Straw, father, James (Margaret) Bennion, mother-in-law, Tami Evans Bond, all of Evanston, Wyo.; sisters, Jamie (Dustin) Mills, Price; Rachel Bennion, Ogden; Rebecca Bennion, Salt Lake City; Jacque (Brenden) Prettyman, Tooele; brother, Rick Straw, Evanston, Wyo.; grandparents, Bryce and EllaBeth Leavitt, St. George; and Ross and June Burningham, Midvale. Also her nieces and nephews, Jordan, Taylor, Alex, Kelsie, Abby, Alicia, Elizabeth, James, Emma, Brooklyn, Brendon and Mitchell. She is preceded in death by grandfather, Samuel H. Bennion.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Evanston 4th LDS Ward Chapel at 1 a.m. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Evanston cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to a memorial fund at Eastern Utah Community Credit Union in Price in her memory would be very appreciated.
Ann Strakey
PRICE – Ann “Anna” Jackson Strakey, age 57, passed away Aug. 9, 2005 at her home.
She was born May 20, 1948 in Price to Edward and June Phyllis Schade Jackson. Married Allan J. Strakey April 24, 1971 in Carbonville.
Member of Liberty Faith Fellowship Church. Lifelong resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1966.
Ann enjoyed painting, needlework, doll collecting and spending time with her family.
Survived by husband, Allan J. Strakey; two daughters and one son, Allison J. Strakey, Ansen E. Strakey, Ariane J. Strakey, all of Price; sisters, Lil Reid, Needles, Calif.; and Minnie (Monty) Hampton, Price. Preceded in death by parents; and brother, Carl E. Jackson.
Funeral service were Saturday, Aug 13, at Liberty Faith Fellowship Church. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Mary Chavis
PRICE/SALT LAKE – Our loving mother, Yiayia and friend, Mary Halamanaris Chavis, age 79, passed away Aug. 12, 2005 of complications from Parkinson’s while surrounded by loving family.
She was born Nov. 9, 1925 in Sunnyside, to Felepas and Penelope Katsaros Halamandaris.
He primary focus throughout her life was her family.
She demonstrated her love through her devotion, generosity, strength of spirit and attention to details.
Her family and friends will remember her bubbly personality and her beautiful smile. She was a fervent Utah Jazz fan in her later years.
Mary is survived by two sons and two daughters, Tony (Laura) Chavis, California; Lewis (Jyl) Dickman, Salt Lake City; Denise (Kevin) Bruno, Salt Lake City; Pam Brady, Colorado; six grandchildren, Lance, Jason, Jeremy, Lindsey, Sadie and Nathan; and two great-grandsons, Jordan and Ashton. Mary is preceded in death by parents; two brothers; and husband, Don Chavis.
Funeral service Wednesday, Aug. 17, 11 a.m., at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Price. Family and friends will gather at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the church service. Interment, Price City cemetery.
