Rocky Mountain mining competition brings in teams

Teams from mines in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico have been in town this week competing in the annual Rocky Mountain Mining Association mine rescue competition. Companies that competed include the Southern Utah Fuel Company (SUFCO), West Ridge Mine Company and Energy West Mining Company from Utah. The Colorado teams came from Twenty Mile Coal Company, West Elk Coal Company, Oxbow Mining, Bowie Resources and Blue Mountain Energy, Inc. New Mexico sent one team from the San Juan Coal Company.
Teams competed in a number of events including first aid, preshift, benchman and mine rescue. The winner of total points for all categories gets to take home the Wilberg Memorial Traveling Trophy for the next year. The winners of the mine rescue competition receive the Utah State Governor’s Traveling Trophy.
