Price Masonic Lodges Open House – The two Price Masonic Lodges will hold an open house on July 30 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Guided tours of the Masonic Lodge building will be held during the open house. The Masonic Lodge building has a long and interesting history in Price. Light refreshments and brochures will be made available at the open house.

Helper Arts Festival To Host “Local Artists Gallery” – during the Arts Festival, August 19-21. Local residents who produce fine art are encouraged take advantage of this free service. Artists must be permanent residents of Carbon or Emery counties and may display up to 2 pieces of their art during the festival in the gallery, located in the Classy Custom Framing studio, 182 South Main in Helper. Items may or may not be for sale, artists’ choice. 10% of any sales will be donated back to the Festival to support future galleries. Awareness-Preparedness Fair – The Price City Emergency Preparedness Committee, and Carbon County, will be holding their annual Awareness-Preparedness Fair October 13, 2005. Boy Scouts of America Scout Expo – July 30, CEU Business Center, 500 North 100 East from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m (north of Desert Wave Swimming Pool). Applications for Sprinkler Irrigation Accepted – The USDA/NRCS is accepting applications for any agricultural land owner interested in sprinkler irrigation. Program to Improve Wildlife Habitat – The Natural Resource Conservation Service in partnership with the Colorado River Salinity Control Forum, local Soil Conservation Districts, and RC&D Councils in Eastern Utah has funds available to improve wildlife habitat through the Basin States Parallel Program. Private landowners, groups of landowners, and state and local government entities are eligible to apply. Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – a non-profit group that helps injured and orphaned wildlife. Help is needed year-round for various projects. Volunteers Needed – ProCare (After School Program) is seeking volunteers to help out with daily activities and also substitute for regular VISTA workers when necessary. Alzheimer’s – Memory Loss – The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer’s Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Story and Craft Hour – C.E.U. Museum will be holding a children’s Story and Craft Hour every first and third Friday of the month at 2:00 pm in the Museum’s Discovery Room. Please call the Museum at 637-5060 if you have any questions.
Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Family Center Lending Library – to help parents including topics such as infant through adult literacy, discipline, children & teens mental health, bullying and much more. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Parenting for Teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Canyon Days – August 13. Plan to join your friends from Peerless, Spring Canyon, Standardville, Latuda, Rains, Mutual, Castle Gate, Willow Creek, and Royal at our annual “Canyon Day’s Celebration”. The picnic will be held at Helper City Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A potluck dinner will be held at 12:30 p.m. Bring your favorite cake, salad or any other dish.
