Ervin L. Cook
EUREKA, Calif. – Ervin L. Cook passed away at the age of 86 at his home on July 3, 2005.
He was born Dec. 21, 1918 to Joseph and Lucy Cook in Hiawatha. Ervin grew up in Castle Dale. After graduating high school, he worked for two years with the Conservation Corps. He served his country in World War II as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
After his discharge from the service, he returned to Utah to work at Columbia coal mine. He met his wife, Hazel Bennett in 1946. They were married Feb. 16, 1947 and started their family in Dragerton. The family moved to Eureka, Calif., in 1967, where Ervin worked for Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District for 18 years.
“Ren,” as he was known to family and friends, was devoted to his family. He and Hazel loved babysitting for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also enjoyed long walks and drives together.
Ren was truly the strong, silent type. He led by example and was respected by all who knew him.
He is survived by Hazel Cook, his beloved wife of 58 years; his brother, Byron Cook and wife, Lucy; sisters, Dora Norton and Erma McVee; sons, Van Cook and wife Kathy, Monte Cook and wife Mary Lou; daughter-in-law, Sue Cook; grandchildren, Vance Cook, Yolynn St. Johns and husband Scott, Brandi Smith and husband Jeff, Nathan Cook and wife Jennifer, Miranda Cook and Aaron Cook; great-grandchildren, Bianca Cook, Colleen Cook, Vanessa Cook, Brooke Schafer, Bryce Schafer, Myranda St. John and Hunter Smith. He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Lucy Cook; brothers, Les and Bill Cook; and sons, Ervin Lane Cook and Mark Wallace Cook.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 6, at Chapel of the Ferns-Cooper Mortuary in Eureka, Calif. Burial will be Thursday, July 7, at 1 p.m. in Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka. Memorial service will be Thursday, July 7, at 2 p.m. at the First Covenant Church, 2526 J Street, Eureka, Calif. A celebration of life will follow at the Peterson residence next to the church.
Charles Rex Berry
PROVO – Charles Rex Berry, 80, passed away July 1, 2005 peacefully at his home in Provo.
He was born Sept. 9, 1924 in Moab to William Carl Berry and Leah Sommerville.
He is survived by and was a devoted husband to Helen; and a loving and dedicated father to their three children, Linda (Dean) Roberts, Douglas (Lori) Berry and Julie (Leigh) Slaugh. He was a great example to his 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and all who knew him.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the North and South Pacific as a navel gunner on various ships.
He had a great athletic career, graduating from Carbon High where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He attended BYU, where he won all-conference honors as a halfback on the football team and pitched for the Cougar baseball team. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1951. He became an all-pro defensive back and has been inducted into the BYU and Utah Sports Hall of Fame.
He was recognized as one of Utah’s best athletes of the century.
After retiring from football, he had a successful career with U. S. Steel and Coastal Chemical Corporation.
Rex was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as bishop, on the high council and in many other callings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Blaine and Burke; and his sisters, Merlene and Norma.
Funeral services will be Thursday July 7, at noon at the LDS chapel located at 3500 North 180 E., Provo. Family and friends may call Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time for the service. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.

SALT LAKE – Kyle and Jennifer Baldwin passed away July 2, 2005 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Kyle was born Nov. 1, 1976 in Granger, the son of Allan D. and Julie Ann Laycock Baldwin. Jennifer A. Santmyer was born March 16, 1976.
Kyle and Jennifer were married March 17, 2003.
Kyle was one of the Six Bros. He loved wave boarding, snowboarding and playing pool.
Kyle is survived by his father, Allan (Patty) Baldwin; grandparents, Harry (Barbara) Laycock, Dan (Doris) Baldwin, Ross (Dolores) Rose; brothers, James Buckman, Michael (Sarah) Park, James Park; sister, Katy Baldwin. Preceded in death by his mother, Julie; brother, Wade; grandmother, Enid Baldwin.
Kyle and Jennifer were soul mates and partners in life and death.They will be greatly missed.

Services for Jennifer will be Saturday, July 9, in Palmyra, N.Y. Services for Kyle will be Monday, 11 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, where friends may call Sunday, 5 to 7 p.m., and Monday, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
Delma Nick
PRICE – Delma Cornelius Nick, age 87, passed away July 5, 2005 at Castleview Hospital in Price while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 22, 1917 in Perry, Fla., to William Barto and Della Deal Cornelius. Married Serfino Leonard Nick Feb. 13, 1945 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Delma was a very generous, loving and thoughtful person who was greatly loved by her family, friends and co-workers. She always made time to listen to anyone in need and put everyone else first.
She was a lifelong resident of California, where she served as the deputy director of administrative services for the department of human resources in Merced, Calif. As the director for Merced, she was honored by the governor for her outstanding work and 27 years of dedicated services.
She was an avid animal lover and she enjoyed flying with her husband.
Delma will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survived by her husband, Serf Nick, Price; sister, Lois Green; brother, Willard Cornelius, both of Cairo, Ga.; nephew, Bart Fields, San Antonio, Texas; sisters-in-law, Kerry Fister, Paulmina New, both of Price; brothers-in-law, Louie (Elaine) Nick, Price; Martin (Charlotte) Nick, San Jose, Calif.; many loving nieces, nephews and longtime friends in Merced, Calif. Preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Ellen Tabone
HELPER – Ellen Bulah Snow Tabone, 84, passed away July 4, 2005 in Bountiful.
She was born Aug.16, 1920 in Orangeville to Arnold and Bessie Robertson Snow. She married Pete Tabone.
She graduated from Carbon High in 1938 and from CEU in 1940. She attended BYU. Retired from the Carbon County School District as secretary at the Reeves and Durrant Elementary schools.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served many years as organist in the Castle Gate LDS Ward.
The love of Mom’s life was her family and music, her life was spent in service to her family where she found her greatest joy. She played in many orchestras and for countless events throughout Carbon County. She was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons.
She lived most of her life in Castle Gate and, in 1974, moved to Helper. She lived to see the completion of five generations with the birth in April of her first great-great granddaughter.
Bulah had a great love for her Heavenly Father and Savior and left a legacy of faith and courage for which she will always be remembered.
Survived by her children Jenna (Kim) Anderson of Bountiful, Gerri Tabone of Helper, Molly (Doyle) Norton of Centerville, Carol Henline of West Valley, Rebecca (Kurt) Ewell of Taylorsville, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sisters Bonnie Bushman and Arnolene (Norm) Anderson both of Provo. Preceded in death by her husband, son Paul, granddaughter Lesa Horsley and brother Montie Snow.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at the Helper LDS Stake Center. A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial in the Mountainview Cemetery in Helper.

William Arthur ‘Billy’ Lanier Jr.
PRICE – William Arthur “Billy” Lanier Jr. left this life early Sunday morning, July 3, 2005.
Billy graduated from College of Eastern Utah several years ago and came back to the area. He was an instructor at CEU and had just undergone surgery at the time of his death.
His funeral will be Saturday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park, located at 4335 West 4100 South in West Valley. Take Bangerter Highway to 4100 South, then proceed to 4335 West. There will be a family visitation two hours prior to the funeral.
A special memorial service will be Sunday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at the Price 4th/5th LDS Ward building, located at 545 East 400 North. Everyone who knew Billy and would like to join in celebrating his life is invited to attend.
