Stella Marshall


HELPER – Stella Eleanor Marshall, 92, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister passed away quietly June 22, 2005.
She was born July 8, 1912, in Ucon, Idaho, to Thomas Marvin and Eva Isola Francom Jensen. She married Thill Marshall May 30, 1931, in Castle Dale, who preceded her in death May 18, 1994.
Stella had a varied working career which included Woody’s Jewelry in Helper, and Lavoy’s in Salt Lake City.
She loved traveling and saw many countries with her beloved husband, Thill. She loved fishing, hunting, camping, gambling, crocheting, gardening and sewing. Most of all she loved her family, who will miss her deeply.
Survived by six children, Beverly (John) Fercik, Helper; Boyd (Carol) Marshall, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Audrey (Dale) Leeper, Phoenix, Ariz.; Jerry (Carol) Marshall, Mesa, Ariz.; Michael (Sandra) Marshall, Morristown, Ariz.; Billy (Lamar) Graves, Layton; 26 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Vera (Harry) Redford. Preceded in death by four brothers, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one grandson, one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 27, 1 p.m., at Fausett Mortuary, 680 E. 100 South, Price. Viewing will be Sunday, June 26, from 3 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice Family Care, 9045 W. Athens St., Building 1, Peoria, AZ 85382.


Demetra Diamanti


PRICE/OAKLAND, Calif. – Demetra Kanellos Diamanti passed away May 14, 2005.
She was born June 17, 1933, to Maria and Angelo Kanellos (both deceased). Demetra married Carbon County native Gregory Gust Diamanti in 1955 and moved to Price.
Raised in “Greek Town” McGill, Nev., with her brother, William Kanellos. Demetra represented White Pine County at Nevada’s Girls’ State; graduated from White Pine High School in 1951; attended college in Pocatello, Idaho, followed by a human resources position with Kennecott Copper.
In 1960 Demetra and Gregory moved to Oakland, Calif., with daughter, Dena. Daughter Maria came along in 1965.
Demetra was very active in her daughters’ lives: PTA, room parent, Girl Scouts, etc. She was devoted to her faith and parish, as a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, Greek Festival booth chair, Philoptochos and bible study member. She was the founding secretary of the Roumeli Society.
Sons-in-law, Dean Valavanis and Nick Zegenis completed her family and both called her mom.
We know she will miss us all but most especially her very precious grandsons, Fotis Evan Valavanis and Vasili Nicholas Zegenis.
Demetra was a mentor and translator for many Greek friends.
Her unofficial hobby was discovering new restaurant sightings, complete with critique.
Her love for her family and friends was shown through her wonderful smile, fabulous cooking and ever ready problem solving abilities.
Throughout her six-year kidney failure journey one thing never failed, the devotion and loving care to her by her husband, Gregory. May her memory be eternal!
Her Trisagion and funeral services were at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland, CA 84602. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Ascension Chapel Fund at the address above.


Helen Sorensen


EMERY – Helen Louise Nelson Sorensen, age 91, passed away June 20, 2005, after a long and fulfilling life. She was the last of her generation on both sides as well as her husband’s side of the family.
She was born Sept. 20, 1913, to Joseph and Annie Sophia Nelson in Ferron. Married Reuben F. Sorensen Sept. 4, 1941, in the Manti LDS Temple.
Helen was an active member of the LDS Church and enjoyed serving in Primary and Relief Society. She was well known for her cooking and canning skills. She also loved playing the piano. She enjoyed fishing trips with Reuben and taught her children that same joy. She was an accomplished quilter and loved to knit afghans for her children and grandchildren.
Survived by son, R. Lynn (Janet) of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Reuben; daughter, Leah Louise (Mark H.) Williams of Castle Dale; two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m., at the Emery LDS Chapel. A viewing will be one hour prior to service at the church. Burial, Emery Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
