Police and witnesses file reports after a train engine hit a Chevy Blazer at the crossing at 750 North and Carbonville Road on May 26. The train, which was reportedly traveling about 30 mph, hit the passenger front fender and pushed the vehicle from its path. Witnessed reported another car crossed the crossing after the crossing signals started flashing and made it across. Train engineers sound the horn on the train at each crossing, and the engineer of the train involved in the collision reportedly sounded the horn longer than usual after the first car crossed the tracks. The driver was allegedly backing off the tracks when the train hit the vehicle and the driver reportedly didn’t see the warning lights, bells, sirens or train. The driver suffered minor injuries and the accident backed up traffic in the area for much of the afternoon.
