It’s been an incredible year for Carbon High athletics, which ended the year with four championship titles.
It all started with the volleyball team in October.
After three runner-up years, the girls of Carbon High decided it was time to take home the title themselves and thoroughly dominated every other 3A team.
It was an almost undefeated year for volleyball, who had five experienced seniors starting for the team along with several excellent freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
There was no doubt that the team would go to the championship game this year, but taking home the title was a nice surprise for everyone after coming so close the last three years in a row.
After losing the first game of the finals against the Morgan High Trojans, the Lady Dinos came back in the second game with some tough teamwork and pulled themselves out of another loss and giving the Trojans their first loss of the tournament.
Game three and four were also dominated by Carbon, who shut out the Trojans with two more wins.
Carbon High’s Morgan Warburton, Jamie King and Monica Shorts were all on the all-tournament team. Warburton was also made MVP.
Three months after beating Morgan for the volleyball title, Carbon High’s girls basketball spoiled yet another title win for the Trojans.
The season started off great for the girls basketball team, who only lost one game during the season against Uintah.
For the finals, the Dinos slaughtered Dixie in the first round, 57-24, Judge Memorial in the quarterfinals 56-31, and Canyon View in the semifinals 46-28.
With three wins behind them in the finals, Carbon went up against the familiar rival, Morgan High, and demolished them in the 3A championship game, 64-54.
Warburton once again showed up on the 3A girls all-tournament team, along with fellow senior, Halee Rasmussen. Both completely dominating the team. Warburton averaged 16 points a game and 13 rebounds.
After an unbelievable year for girls sports, the boys diving team brought home their own title after placing first in their championship meet.
Nothing compared to the unbelievable season the baseball team had, completing a nearly undefeated season and taking home the fourth 3A championship trophy of the year.

The baseball team stumbled at the beginning of the season, but after their one run loss against Silvercreek in the Montrose Colorado Tournament, quickly turned it around and had 16 wins in a row.
The team also stayed ahead in the championship, staying in the winners bracket for the entire tournament.
Demolishing the second place team, Pine View, two days in a row, Carbon showed how much better they were with an 11-3 win in the last game.
Carbon High baseball members completely dominated the 3A all-tournament team, having four out of the nine positions on the team held by Carbon High players, including Adam Martinez, Aaron Sandoval, Chase Julian and Chris Hatch.
Some Carbon High Sports didn’t have as good of a year as others.
The softball team had a pretty good year, making it to the state finals. They played great and had a lot of incredible wins, but couldn’t take out Lehi and were eliminated from the tournament after a devastating loss.
The boys basketball team didn’t have as good of a year as the girls, only winning six of 15 games.
There were several really close games that didn’t quite turn out for Carbon. With a lot of sophomore and freshmen on the team, Carbon should make a better showing next year.
The boys soccer and football teams also had a difficult year. Football losing all nine games played, while soccer had a few great wins, but didn’t make it passed Ogden in the first round of playoffs.
Every team will be suffering a tremendous loss after the graduation of an unbelievable group of 2005 seniors.
The baseball team will be losing Joe Via, Chris Hatch, Dustin Howa, Mike Zaccaria, Cameron Oliver, Nick Nielsen, Tyler Nelson, Chris Hanson and Daniel Davis, all of who will be greatly missed for their talent and sportsmanship.
Softball, girls basketball and volleyball will all have a devastating loss after losing Morgan Warburton and Halee Rasmussen who both excelled on all three teams.
Girls basketball will be in a good place next year after only losing three seniors, including Rasmussen, Warburton and Maquette Potts.
Softball is also losing Potts, along with Whitney Montoya, Lacey Timothy and Dusty Wilder, but has an excellent set of freshmen, sophomores and juniors for next year’s team.
Boys basketball will be losing only four seniors, Jeremy Barker, Miles Hunsaker, Tyler Nelson, and Cameron Oliver, and should make a great showing next year.
The soccer team will have a devastating loss with several of their best players graduating. Brad Baggs, Jacob Denison, Cameron Butler, Thomas Garvin, Todd Palmer, Daniel Gibson, Kevin Bunnell, Andrew Bjork, Tim Lasslo, Taylor Dastrup and Nick Teny will all be graduating and leaving much to be desired for next year’s lineup.
All graduating seniors will not be forgotten in upcoming years, giving future Carbon High freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors something to strive for.
All of this year’s graduates should have an excellent chance of continuing their sports careers on college teams throughout Utah and nationwide.
