Cancer Screening – Southeaster Utah District Health Department in Price offers Women Health Clinics twice a month for women 40-64. This program provides free or low cost breast exam and pap smear. Women may qualify for a free mammogram. Call the health department at 637-3671 for an appointment.

Helper City Spring Clean-up – for residents of Helper City will be in effect the last two weeks of April. City crews will pick up branches, shrubs, etc. only. No furniture, appliances, etc. There will be no backtracking after your week is done. Branches must be cut in four foot lengths and stacked off the road and sidewalk so they will not be in the way until pick up. Volunteers Needed – ProCare (After School Program) is seeking volunteers to help out with daily activities and also substitute for regular VISTA workers when necessary. Alzheimer’s – Memory Loss – The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer’s Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Frontier Project – A local Family Support Group, Frontier Family F.U.T.U.R.E.S. meets every third Thursday in Carbon County. This is an organized parent education and support group. Anyone interested is invited to participate. Meetings begin at 7:00 at the Castle Valley Center, 755 North Cedar Hills Dr. in Price. Childcare and refreshments are available. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 26th Annual Castle Country Women’s Conference – Hosted by CEU on April 1, 2005. Spencer’s Wishes Foundation – is sponsoring 150 children ages 8-17 from the Carbon-Emery area to attend the 14th annual Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association Baseball Clinic on April 30 at Franklin Covery Field in Salt Lake City. The foundation will pay the entrance fee, which allows each child a t-shirt, pizza, autographs, 2 tickets to the Stinger’s baseball game that evening, and the camp itself which includes instruction in hitting, fielding, base running, pitching etc. Parents will be responsible for transportation to/from the event. Submit your child’s name, age, phone number and parent/guardians name by April 7th. A random drawing will be held the next day and the first 150 names drawn will be invited to attend. American Legion Service Officer Visit – On April 7 a Service Officer from the American Legion in Salt Lake City will be visiting Price to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the American Legion to receive assistance.
