Lady Dinos undefeated through regular season

Team faces home site state game on Saturday

Tabby Cummins takes the ball around a Lehi defender on Thursday evening as the Lady Dinos topped of an undefeated league season in a home game. Carbon now faces Region 9’s Dixie on Saturday.

With a 69-49 win against the Lehi High Pioneers Thursday, Carbon High’s Lady Dinos championed region eight with an 8-0 record.
Ending the first quarter with a one-point lead, Carbon pulled ahead to 33-25 at the half. In the third quarter Lehi responded to each of Carbon’s plays, keeping Carbon from furthering their lead.
After an almost dead-even third quarter, Carbon went into the fourth quarter leading 47-40. With the game still open for either team to win, Carbon pushed hard in the last quarter outscoring the Pioneers by 13 to win with a comfortable lead.
Carbon’s senior forward, Morgan Warburton, dominated play throughout the game, scoring 23 points, including three baskets from behind the three-point line. Other points for Carbon came from Jamie King with 14 points, Halee Rasmussen with 14, Danielle Martino with 8, Maquett Potts with 7 and Meesha Rasmussen with 2.
Warburton had three 3 pointers in amassing her total.
The Lady Dinos now head into the first round of 3-A tournament play, facing region nine’s fourth place Dixie Flyers on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Dinogym.
Carbon’s record overall is now 18-1, the best in the state in the 3A girls ranks. If they win against Dixie on Saturday then they will head to the state playoffs the next week at Utah Valley State College.
