Carbon’s Danielle Martino (21) heads towards the basket as North Sanpete’s Mandy Johnson (12) can only watch during the next to last regular season game for the Lady Dinos on Tuesday night.

Only one game remains before the regular season is over for the Lady Dinos.
Only on game stands in their way of having a perfect record in Region 8 this year.
Only one game remains for the Lehi Lady Pioneers to finish out their run as a 3A school, and for Carbon to welcome in a new era in Region 8 girls basketball.
But before anyone looks past Lehi toward the state playoffs, don’t forget that the Lady Dinos don’t have a perfect record and have been beaten once this year.
But you couldn’t tell that by the 68-45 drubbing the girls from Carbon administered to their guests from Sanpete County Tuesday night. Carbon looked awesome with three players in double figures and rebounding that took away most of the second chances the Hawks had to score.
The Lady Dinos are ready for state, there is no doubt.
One has to almost feel sorry for the Lady Pioneers who came to town on Thursday night, bidding Price goodbye for the last time, and most likely on a losing note.
Against the Lady Hawks, Carbon jumped on them right from the beginning of the first quarter and never let up. By the time the buzzer sounded in that period the Lady Dinos were ahead 13-7.
But it was the second period when Carbon built a lead that even a stronger second half by the Lady Hawks couldn’t undo. Between Morgan Warburton, Maquette Potts and Hallee Rasmussen, shots went in left and right. The Sanpete kids had little to counter with. At halftime the score was 36-19, and it looked like Carbon had it wrapped up.
Well, they did, but for the next two periods Sanpete did become much more competitive.
In the third quarter the Lady Hawks got tougher. They began playing some real defense and they also rebounded better. They managed their way to a tie in scoring for the period (13-13) and in the process seemed to gain some confidence.
But the Lady Dinos were just too far ahead and to powerful to allow another even period. In the final eight minutes Carbon, largely with substitutes on the floor, were able to put in 19 points while holding the Lady Hawks to 13.
Warburton lead all scorers with 24 points while Potts put in 13 and Rasmussen contributed 11.
Others in the scoring column were Danielle Martino and Tabby Cummins with 6, Jamie King and Meesha Rasmussen, with 4 each.
Warburton hit four 3 pointers, while Hallee Rasmussen put in two.
Carbon at 17-1 should have little trouble tonight (Thursday) with 6-13 Lehi when they face them in the Dinogym at 7 p.m.
Looking ahead, regardless of what happens on Friday, Carbon will have a home site state game on Feb. 19 with the number four team from Region 9. The opponent at this point appears to be either Dixie or Snow Canyon who both have 2-6 records in league play.
