While not many male divers showed up for the 3A region diving meet at Bear River High School, a win is a win. And for the Carbon High boys team it was a bonanza, as they took first place in the meet and will head off to the state meet at BYU next week with a lot of confidence.
In the competition Michael Glasson placed first overall, Philip Noyes placed second and Jacob Perez placed third. This put the Carbon boys team on top.
The girls team also finished strong at the meet as well. They took second overall.
Individually Mikaleen Loveless finished in second place, with a very high score. Katie Hobbs took ninth overall.
“Katie keeps improving each time she competes,” said Carbon diving coach Stewart Foster. “With all the experience she has had this year she is looking forward to next year.”
Foster says that Loveless has very good form and also is very precise in her diving technique.
Diving in Utah high schools is a unique sport that many schools don’t participate in. As such the state diving championships are held with all school classifications competing against each other for a single state championship crown. So in essence, the 3A region is the 3A championship.
