Elsie Cochrane
PRICE – Our loving mother, grandmother and sister, Elsie Georgine Pearson Cochrane, age 87, passed away Jan. 17, 2005 in Price while surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 12, 1917 in Scofield to George Wagstaff and Elsie Frost Pearson. Married John Cochrane March 3, 1940 in Farmington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Oct. 4, 1958. John passed away on Sept. 4, 1972.
Elsie was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many positions, including president, first and second counselor of the Primary; a Beehive, Mia Maid and Laurel leader as well as first counselor in the young women’s; cub scout den mother; Relief Society president and home making leader. She also worked with the singles on both the ward and stake levels.
Elsie was blessed with a beautiful voice and she sang in many duets, trios and with the Singing Mothers on numerous programs.
She was a gifted artist and did many oil paintings on wonderful pieces in ceramics. As a fine seamstress, she loved making clothing for herself and her family. She also enjoyed reupholstering, draperies and quilts.
Elsie took great care and pride in her beautiful flowers and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survived by two daughters and one son, Linda (Max) Funk, Price; Janice (Chuck) Lepper, Idaho Falls, Idaho; John (Kathy) Cochrane, Eagle Mountain; sister, Mona Nielson, St. George; brother, George (RaeDell) Pearson, Elmo; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandsons. Preceded in death by parents; sons, Ronald Kent and Larry Ray Cochrane; grandson, Gary Funk; sisters, Rosella, Elizabeth Jumper Huff and Naomi Stones Scarpella.
Funeral service Saturday, Jan. 22, 1 p.m., Price 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 400 North 500 East. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Irene Jensen
EMERY – Irene Lucille Jensen, age 84, was called home Jan. 17, 2005 in Ferron.
She was born Jan. 24, 1920 in Lehi to Ray and Irene Forbes Carter. She married Alten Jensen March 25, 1946 in the Manti LDS Temple.
She was a very dedicated wife and mother who served faithfully in her LDS Church callings. She excelled in homemaking skills, cooking, quilting, gardening and canning.
Lucille is survived by husband, Alten of Emery; daughter, Janet Booth of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sons, Joel Jensen of Emery; Drew Jensen of Bremerton, Wash.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by one brother, Vivian Carter of Lehi.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 22, noon, in the Emery LDS Chapel where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Emery Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Hyrum Hansen
CASTLE DALE/FOUNTAIN GREEN – Hyrum Dee Hansen, 92, of Fountain Green, died Jan. 16, 2005 in his home of natural causes.
Hyrum Dee Hansen was born March 5, 1912 in Fountain Green. He met his sweetheart, Mary Anne Butler, in Logan, while attending USU and was married June 8, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Hyrum Dee was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He graduated from Moroni High School and Utah State University.
After graduating from USU, he began working for the United States Department of Agriculture-Soil Conservation Service. His first appointment was in Safford, Ariz.
When the United States entered World War II, Hyrum Dee joined the Navy. He served his country in this capacity from April 1944 to Oct.ober 1945 in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, Hyrum Dee returned to his chosen career, soil conservation. In 1946, he was transferred to Lehi, then in 1958 to Castle Dale.
Hyrum Dee retired in 1973 after 35 years with the soil conservation service. Following this retirement, he moved back to the family farm in Fountain Green, where he has enjoyed farming and working with animals since that tine.
Hyrum Dee was involved in church work throughout his life and was active in the Lions Club for 55 years.
He is survived by 11 children, Deanna (Odell) Rice, Malad, Idaho; Marilyn (Peter) Hansen, Ivins; Carol (Tom) Wayman, Manti; Richard (Carol) Hansen, Glendale, Ariz.; David (Rolayne) Hansen, Modesto, Calif.; Glen (Jill) Hansen, New Harmony; Gail Petersen, Inkom, Idaho; Elizabeth (Michael) Ward, Monmouth, Oregon; Jane (Rian) Anderson, Fairview; Niels Hansen, Ogden; Rebecca (Lynn) Larson, Price; three sisters, Verl Brady, Las Vegas, Nev.; Rachel Syme, Ft. Green; and Dora Spencer, Bountiful. Preceded in death by parents, Alice and Hyrum Hansen; wife, Mary Annie Butler Hansen; brother, Lloyd Hansen; and sisters, Beth Anderson and Doris Hansen.
Funeral services Saturday, Jan. 22, 2 p.m., in the Fountain Green LDS Chapel. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Fountain Green Cemetery.
Richard Crissman
WELLINGTON – Richard Lee Crissman, “Gone Fishing,” age 54, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family and friends on Jan. 16, 2005.
He was born on March 19, 1950 in Standardville to William and Betty Pessetto Crissman. Married Brenda Mangus April 27, 1974 in Price, later divorced.
Lifelong resident of Carbon County. Graduate of Notre Dame High School, College of Eastern Utah and later attended Weber State College.
“Dick” was presently employed with Crown Technologies. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Powell, going to sporting events and spending time with family and friends.
Survived by son, Creed Crissman; special friend, Chantelle Jensen; father, William J. Crissman, Price; sister, Carol (Jack) Bonaquisto, Price; brothers, Bill (Leilani) Crissman; John Crissman (Lori Montgomery); sister, Gina (Jeremy) Evans, all of Salt Lake City; and special fishing buddy, Ray Coleman. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by beloved mother, Betty Crissman.

Ben Reddington
HELPER – Ben R. Reddington, age 84, passed away Jan. 18, 2005.
He was born March 12, 1920 in Provo to B.N. and Edith Meneray Reddington. Married Mary Arline Reid on Mary 3, 1941 in Latuda. She died Nov. 3, 2002.
Lifelong resident of Carbon County. He was an honorary life member of Price Elks Lodge 1550 and a member of the Slovenian Home of Spring Glen.
After 44 years of dedicated service, Ben retired as yard master at Helper D&RGW. He was a member of the yard master union.
Ben was an umpire for little league and pony league and played softball with the Helper Railroad team.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survived by children, Dorothy (Dan) LaRoy, Las Vegas, Nev.; Ray (Leatrice) Reddington, Wellington; Bob Reddington, Florida; Harry (Pam) Reddington, Helper; Edyth Blair, Helper; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service Friday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m, at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
John Plese
HELPER/SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. – John Plese, age 83, passed away Dec. 24, 2004.
Born Oct. 22, 1921 in Kenilworth, to John and Mary Plese. Married Jean Harkleroad in 1945 in Seattle, Wash.
Served in the U. S. Marine Corps. during World War II.
Survived by wife, Jean; daughter, Pamela; of Sun City West, Ariz.; daughter, Bonnie (Neil) Knapp of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jessica Werbick of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and Jonathan Knapp; sister, Mary (Larry) Widman of Price; sister-in-law, Patricia Plese; nephew, Patrick (Jill) Plese of Tooele; great-niece, Hunter Plese of Tooele; and other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Josephine; brother, Tom.
Services were Dec. 29, 2004 in Sun City West, Ariz. Interment was Jan.3 in National Military Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.
Esther Olsen
PRICE/PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Esther Zarkis Olsen of Prescott, Ariz., formerly of Price , went to be with the Lord Dec.14, 2004.
Esther helped open and managed the first laundry in the Price hospital. She remained in that position for many, many years until she moved to Phoenix, Ariz.
Esther loved cooking and sewing for her family.
She loved God.
Survived by daughter, Constance Zarkis Lyon of Prescott, Ariz., and her family; and son, John G. Zarkis of Montrose, Colo., and his family. Esther is also survived by eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers.
A celebration of her life was presented Dec. 17 in Prescott, Ariz., with friends and family in attendance. Interment, National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, Ariz.
