The Carbon Dinos basketball team went north last Wednesday night.
No it wasn’t to meet Santa Claus as he came down from the north pole, but instead to meet the Union Cougars in their home town of Roosevelt.
And if the Union kids felt that they were holiday hosts, they were bad ones as they sent the Carbon team packing 68-57.
It was another case of Carbon coming on strong in the first half of the game and then letting it slip away in the second half.
Carbon jumped out to a strong start in the first quarter by taking it to the Cougars with a 15-12 lead.
Again in the second period the Dinos punched out more points while holding the home team to only 12 to take a 31-24 advantage into the locker room.
Unfortunately two periods do not a game make, as the Cougars came out burning up the nets and more than making up for their first half drought as the put 20 points through the net in the third period. More disastrous for Carbon though is that they weren’t even able to manage double figures in the quarter and they went down as Union ended the period with a 44-40 lead.
In the fourth period Union poured it on even more, despite the Dinos improved shooting. The Roosevelt team put in 24 points to the Dinos 17.
Leading Carbon in scoring once again was Miles Hunsaker with 19 points. Parker Parsons and Cameron Oliver ended up with 9.
That defeat brought Carbon to a 3-7 overall record while Union improved to 6-4.
Carbon next faces Ogden this Thursday night at home at 7 p.m.
Then the team will meet two Colorado squads at home next week in their only out of state action this season.
