Letter to the Editor: Being on God’s side

By Sun Advocate

Editor:
Now the elections are over and we are about to install the newly elected officials, many tempers are cooled off and the soil is back in the garden spot (the mud that is). Many of us have forgotten the promises made by the candidates which in many cases they didn’t plan on keeping anyway.
During the debates there were many issues discussed, but I noticed that one that was addressed very lightly was that of abortion. This is a very hot subject and a firm stand on either side could have made a difference in the voting, and so we never got a clear understanding of how each candidate stood on the subject.
I saw a movie sometime ago where a thief was robbing a home and in the process a child was shot to death. The story showed the grief, the heartbreak, the bitterness and revenge on the faces and in the hearts of the parents. Many of us who have experienced the untimely death of a loved one seem to live it all again vicariously.
All through the scriptures we are told that we are all God’s children. How do you think the Lord feels when an abortionist kills one of his kids?
I know of a case where a woman was about five months along and was having so many problems that the doctors said to her, we are going to abort the child because you can’t live through it. She said ‘no’. The doctor even said that if she did live through the birth, the child would probably be deformed in some way. She said then she would just love it that much more. The birth was extremely hard but the child was normal. Today that child is a successful businessman.
Abe Lincoln once said, “My concern is not whether God is on our side; my great concern is to be on God’s side.”
