Marguerite Small


PRICE – Marguerite Elsa (Axelgard) Small passed away Nov. 8, 2004 in Vacaville, Calif.
She was born Aug. 10, 1913 in Gainesville, Texas, to Christian and Karen (Sorenson) Axelgard, the second oldest of seven children. She married Roy Harrison and had two children. Roy passed away in 1964. She later married Robert Small.
Marguerite grew up in Duchesne, where her father owned a creamery. The family later moved to Price when Marguerite was in high school. She graduated from Carbon High in 1931.
Marguerite took great pride in attending St. Mark’s school of nursing in Salt Lake, where she was an excellent student. After moving to California in the 1930s, she worked as an industrial nurse and later, as the Infection Control Nurse at Mt. Diablo Hospital in Concord.
Besides her passion for nursing, Marguerite enjoyed spending her time playing bridge, working in her garden, reading and traveling. She also was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Marguerite is survived by husband, Robert Small of Tucson, Ariz.; children, Karyn Barnes of Vacaville, Calif.; Kevin Harrison of Oroville, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers, Wiggo Axelgard of Salt Lake and A.T. Axelgard of Provo. Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Price City Cemetery. Friends are invited to call on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price.
