Julie Jorgensen applies pressure as an American Red Cross lab technician removes a needle from her arm during a community blood drive at the Helper auditorium on Oct. 12.
According to the American Red Cross, someone needs a blood tranfusion every two seconds.
Donating is about a one-hour process, which includes registration, a health history questionnaire, a mini-exam and refreshments. One pint is drawn from medically qualified donors in a procedure that takes approximately 10 minutes. Juice and snacks help donors adjust to the slight decrease in fluids.
Carbon County residents wishing to donate blood must become involved with or sponsor a drive.
Castleview Hospital does not operate a blood donation center.
