In a world that gives people limitless options, the choices for exercise and fitness should be better than ever.
But for women, the plethora of choices may be too much to handle.
Women have basic nutritional and physical activity needs that have not changed, even though the world has. However, a new gym in Price claims to be able to accommodate the timeless needs of women in a 21st century society.
Curves, a women-only gym, is the largest fitness franchise in the world, with over 8,000 locations, according to the corporate website.
Price Curves manager Amber Pruitt said the gym offers a complete health and fitness program that cannot be found anywhere else.
According to Pruitt, Curves allows women to get a complete aerobic and strength training workout in 30 minutes. The workout, set to music, rotates women every 30 seconds from a hydraulic resistance machine to a recovery station and back.
Machines alternate between upper body and lower body and heart rate checks are done throughout the circuit to ensure the heart rate is in a fat-burning zone. Members are encouraged to come three times a week to get the full affect of the workout.
Pruitt said response to the gym has been overwhelming since its opening four months ago and was one of the biggest openings the franchise has ever seen.
Members range in age from 10-years-old to 78-years-old, and Pruitt said the physical condition of members ranges just as much.
She said the supportive and positive environment makes members feel comfortable enough to keep coming.
“You don’t have to get in shape just to show up to the gym here,” she pointed out.
When members first sign up for the gym, body measurements and weight, along with body fat percentage are taken. Goals are then set for members to work toward and remeasurements are taken on a monthly basis.
The gym focuses more on lost inches than on lost weight.
So far, a total of 2,739.75 inches have been lost by Carbon County women.
Pruitt also assures that the machinary won’t cause women to bulk up and can improve bone mass and range of motion.
“Exercise overall is the best thing you can do for your body, whether it’s here or not,” concluded Pruitt.

Carbon County women can also look into other area fitness facilities for exercise geared toward women. Fitness World offers a variety of aerobic classes and facilities with women in mind. A physician should be consulted before beginning any exercise program.
