Carbon County Sheriff James Cordova prepares to present scholarship checks to Donald Berry and Alisha Martinez. The funding came from the Utah Sheriffs Association scholarship award program.
The scholarships are set up so law enforcement personnel and families may receive financial assistance to attend college.
The program sometimes helps individuals without affiliations with peace officers who want to pursue educations in a field related to law enforcement.
Berry and Martinez are 2004 graduates of Carbon High and plan to attend College of Eastern Utah. Martinez plans to major in general studies, while Berry will go into criminal justice field.
The two local students plan to attend University of Utah after graduating from CEU.
