Cassie Higginbotham
WELLINGTON – Cassie Amber Higginbotham, age 21, passed away July 31, 2004 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born May 6, 1983 in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Randy and Annette Winder.
Cassie was, above all, a free spirit who loved angels. She would spend every spare minute in the Manti LaSal Mountains, which she dearly loved. More than anything, however, she loved her two little angels, Daileny and Tailey.
She was a friend to everyone she met and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Cassie is survived by two daughters, Daileny and Tailey; parents, Randy and Annette Winder, Wellington; sisters, Hollie and Dan Peterson, Carrie Higgin-botham, Varity and Matt Pettus, Anna and Matt Thomas, Megan and Victor Dunegan; grandmother, Stella Reid; and many nephews whom she dearly loved.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 4, 11 a.m., at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Castle Dale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to Fausett Mortuary or Zions Bank for the care of her two little daughters would be much appreciated.
Marvin Montoya
PRICE – Marvin Montoya, age 65, passed away July 30, 2004 in Provo after a two and a half month battle with cancer.
Born March 28, 1939 in Helper to J.U. and Lucy Martinez Montoya. Married Ruth Sanger, she later died. Married Carolyn Black, they later divorced.
Marvin was a longtime resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1957. In his youth, he was very athletic in boxing, basketball, football and baseball, where he was honored on the legion all-star team for the south league.
Served in the U.S. Army. Marvin worked for various coal mines in Carbon County and Colorado and was later employed with UDOT.
He loved to hunt, fish and was an avid rock collector.
Survived by a daughter, Jenny; three sons, Gary, Marty and Scott; brother, Delee Montoya, Kaysville; two sisters, Sherlene Hertzog, Edmonds, Wash.; Merlene Kirkwood, Helper; and five grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; and brothers, Ernest and Robert.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony’s Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Mabel Faddis
PRICE/MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mabel Gunderson Faddis, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Mission Viejo, Calif., due to natural causes.
She was born to Nephi and Marie Hansen Gunderson Sept. 27, 1911 in Mt. Pleasant and grew up and resided most of her life in Price. Mabel graduated from Carbon High School and married James Sloan Faddis on Aug. 5, 1930 in Duchesne. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple for time and all eternity on Sept. 27, 1977.
Her priority was her family, but she also enjoyed her job at JCPenney Company, where she worked for 25 years. Following her retirement from JCPenney, Mabel kept active caring for her garden of flowers, crocheting and spending time with her children and their families.
Mabel is survived by son, Larry James Faddis and daughter-in-law, Helen, of Bountiful; daughter, Patricia Faddis Peterson and son-in-law, Sherwood, of Lake Forest, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by loving husband, Jimmy, on May 24, 1974; her beautiful daughter, Bonnie Faddis Slack, on Aug. 29, 1994; four sisters; three brothers; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, August 2, at Mitchell’s Funeral Home. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
JD Wilson
HUNTINGTON – JD LeGrand Wilson, age 21, passed away July 30, 2004.
He was born Sept. 2, 1982 in Orem to Bruce and Corinne Stokes Wilson.
JD lived his whole life in Emery County and had a love of the outdoors; snowboarding, skateboarding and helping his grandparents on the farm.
He loved his guitar and was an excellent artist.
He was also a member of the LDS Church.
He is survived by parents; brother, Shawn; and sister, Natausha, all of Huntington. Also survived by grandparents, Bevan and FloAnn Wilson of Huntington, Ray Stokes of Salt Lake City, and Carol and Ken Pilling of Huntington.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 3, 11 a.m., at the Huntington 5th LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment, Huntington Cemetery.
Lester Stilson
ORANGEVILLE/ST. GEORGE – Lester Clan Stilson, age 75, passed away July 30, 2004 at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev., from an accidental fall at his home in St. George.
He was born Oct. 30, 1928 in Orangeville to William Lester and Laura Velma Wayman Stilson. He married Beth Billingsley Killian July 21, 1947 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Clan was raised in Emery County. He graduated from South Emery High School in 1947. He loved basketball and stated that sports pulled him through school. He was a hard worker and excelled in every profession he pursued.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in all his callings responsibly and humbly. His greatest attribute was serving others. He lived his life serving and died in service.
His capacity to love and care for family, friends, neighbors and strangers was indeed Christlike. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have truly been blessed to be part of his exceptional life. His example is one to be emulated.
Lester Clan Stilson is survived by his wife, Beth, St. George; children, Phillip (Ruby) Stilson, Salt Lake City; Colleen (Verlan) Hogue, Orem; Blaine (Jennie) Stilson, St. George; Karen (Dan) Peterson, Salt Lake City; Stuart (Trudi) Stilson, St. George, Glen (Claire) Stilson, St. George; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and brother, Kent (Ruth) Stilson, Orangeville. He was preceded by his parents; and sister, Vay Stilson.
Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 6, 11 a.m., at the St. George 8th LDS Ward Chapel, 166 South Main. Visitations will be Thursday, Aug. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, and Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the chapel. Interment, St. George City Cemetery.

Harriet Topolovec
PRICE/ Alonga, Iowa – Harriet Lucille Bacon Topolovec died Aug. 1, 2004 at Messenger House Care Center, Bainbridge Island, Wash
She was born Oct. 7, 1922 in Algona, Iowa, to a hog and potato farmer family. She, along with her parents, Howard Zenith and Nora Alice Lambdin Bacon, and four sisters moved west, settling in Utah in the coal mining and dinosaur area. She graduated from Carbon High School in 1939 in Price. She attended a year of vocational school, becoming a secretary for Carbon School Board.
She married Rudy Topolovec June 12, 1943 and spent the next 50 years working for the Carbon County School District, an insurance company, helping her husband and her parents on their farms and raising her children. She and her husband moved to Port Townsend, Wash., in 1993. Rudy died in June 1999.
Harriet could accomplish anything she decided to do. She helped her father run the Bacon dairy doing everything from the milking to the delivering. She made all her own soaps, canned everything in sight, did hand quilting and gave them to everyone she met. She crocheted bedspreads, tablecloths, decorations, all types of gift items, afghans, big and small, and gave them away, too. She was a super fisher-woman and always outdid the men.
She is survived by two children, Randall (Kathy) Topolovec, Salt Lake City; Sandra (Ronald) Kosec, Port Townsend, Wash.; four grandchildren, Rebecca Stolberg, RaNae (Scott) Schmidt, Matthew (Shannon) Kosec and Stephanie (Kevin) O’Brien; great-grandson, Cole Riley Stolberg. Also survived by two sisters, Bonnie (Harold) Reed, Wofford Heights, Calif., and Judy (Jack) Reynolds, Eagle, Idaho. Preceded in death by infant son, David; sisters, Helena Howard and Alice Marie Yarbrough.
Graveside services will be Friday, Aug. 6, at 1 p.m. at Price City Cemetery under the direction of Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, Wash. Rev. Nancy Boswell will officiate.
Gloria Pace
PRICE – Gloria Poloni Pace, age 75, beloved mother and grandmother died peacefully July 30, 2004 in Hurricane.
She was born Feb. 5, 1929 in Latuda to Bernard and Julia Citerio Poloni. She married Gene Pace Sept 18, 1948 in Price.
Survived by son, Gene (Lori) Pace; two grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Winters; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Arco (Fosca) Poloni and Arthur (Phyllis) Poloni of Price. Preceded in death by parents and husband.
Graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 7, 11 a.m., Price City Cemetery.
