Carbon High girls soccer tryouts Aug 2-6
The Lady Dino soccer tryouts for the 2004 season will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Aug 2 on the soccer fields on the north side of Carbon High School.
Any girl in ninth through 12th grade is eligible and encouraged to attend.
Dino 14 & under girls fast pitch team wins state championship
Dino fast pitch softball went undefeated in the Amateur Softball Association State Recreation Tournament on July 16 and 17 in Pleasant Grove behind 32 strikeouts from pitcher Leslee Lake.
In the opening game, the Dinos trampled Riverton 23-1 and followed the game with a tight 3-0 win over West Valley Blue. The Dinos fought off a late West Valley run, stranding two runners on the bases when right fielder Nicky Woodbury turned an amazing catch into a double play.
The Dinos next took a 7-3 win over the Silver Stars. Erika Potts and Whitney Williams each went 3 for 4 from the plate and outfielder Whitney Oliver made three catches.
In the championship game, the team faced West Valley Blue, which had come back through the loser’s bracket. Kelsey Gillespie and Meagan Pearson lead the team defensively and an in the park grand slam in the third inning by Whitney Williams sealed the game. The Dinos took the championship with a 9-2 win.
The Dinos will travel to Spanish Fork in August for a season ending tournament.
Rooster Valley Super Softball Classic in Richfield
The 20th annual Rooster Valley Super Softball Classic will take place July 30 and 31 in Richfield. The tournament is for men’s class D and E and women’s class D and E divisions.
