Thelma Rasmussen
SPRING GLEN/ELMO – Thelma J. Oveson Rasmussen passed away July 15, 2004.
She was born May 4, 1905.
Her body grew weary but her spirit was still strong and cried out to be free. On July 15, 2004 the Heavens opened and into the arms of Angels and her waiting family and friends there, our dear mother and grandmother departed only to begin her most magnificent journey. Leaving being the pain and sorrow, she is now at peace and reunited at last with loved ones who have been waiting. Overcome with sadness, not a day will pass that we will not miss her, but we rejoice in knowing that indeed, her spirit has been set free and will forever dwell in our hearts to guide us in all that we do. So until the day comes that she too will be there waiting with open arms to welcome us, we must say “good-bye dear one”.
Survived by sister, Marie Atwood, Elmo; daughter Evelyn J. (Cambron) Peterson, Brigham City; son, Henry J. (Myrna) Rasmussen, El Paso, Texas; son, Ronald Vaughn (Dauna) Rasmussen, Alpine; daughter, Myrna Lee (Frank) Saccomanno, Spring Glen; son, Tommy K. (Bonnie) Rasmussen, Spring Glen; 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, James A. Oveson; Jane P. Stokes; three sisters, two brothers, son, Lawrence Venoy Rasmussen; daughter, Joyce Ann Tamllos; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, July 19, at the Spring Glen LDS Chapel. Burial, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to Turnquist Retreat where mom received such loving care and was know to all as “Aunt Thel”.
Barbara Moore
PRICE/HELPER – Our Loving mother, grandmother and mother-in-law Barbara Joyce Stam Moore, age 68, passed away July 16, 2004 at Castleview Hospital while surrounding by her family.
Born Dec. 17, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Jacob and Margaret Powell Stam. Married Frank E. Moore Nov, 5, 1976 in Riverton. He later died.
Barbara was a member of the LDS church and a former resident of Helper prior to moving to Price. She will be dearly missed by family and many friends.
Survived by son, Rick (Judy) Moore, Helper; mother, Margaret Powell Stam; three sisters, Dorothy Stam, Salt Lake City; Carol (Bill) Pola, West Valley; ReNay (Doug) Jenkins, Riverton; four brothers, Richard Stam, Tooele; Frank Stam, Helper; Edward Stam, St. George; Leeland (Vi) Stam, Riverton; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by father; son, Lonnie; three daughters, Sheryl Ann, twin daughters, Cindy and Vicky.
Graveside service Tuesday, July 20, 3 p.m., Mountain View Cemetery, Helper. Friends are welcome to call Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday prior to service. Family will be at the Helper LDS Stake Center Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers family suggests donations be made to Rick Moore. Family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice for their loving care.
Virginia Hanks
PRICE – Virginia R. Hanks, 86, of Price, died Thursday in a local care center after a long illness.
Mrs. Hanks was born April 20, 1918, in Christopher, Ill., the daughter of Dominic and Anna Ronchetto. She married Michael Gamber on July 30, 1940 in Trinidad, Colo. Mr. Gamber was an independent coal operator and they made their first home in Latuda, Carbon County before settling in Price in 1949.
Mr. Gamber died in 1955 and she was married to Howard P. Hanks from Aug. 18, 1963 until he passed away in 1997.
A graduate of the nursing program at St. Louis University, Mrs. Hanks was a nursing instructor at Carbon College from 1956 until 1958. She worked as a secretary in the U.S. Forest Service office in Price from 1958 until she joined the staff of the Bureau of Land Management in 1962. She eventually became the administrative officer for BLM offices of Price and Moab, retiring in 1978.
An active member of the Notre Dame Parish, Mrs. Hanks was a volunteer for more than 14 years at the Notre Dame School.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda G. (Brent) Keetch, Pismo Beach, Calif.; Martyanne (Mike) Donavan, Denver, Colo.; son, Michael R. (Stephanie) Gamber, Price; stepdaughter, Kayte Kirkwood, Baytown, Texas; five grandchildren, James and Richard Gamber, both of Price; Michelle Gillespie, Eagle Mountain; Gretchen Hains, Webster, Texas; and Lydia Scott, Baytown, Texas. She leaves four great-grandchildren. Her children express special thanks to the staff at Parkdale Care Center for the love and care given to their mother.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Notre Dame Parish Church. Visitation will take place one hour before the Mass at Mitchell Funeral Home, Price. Committal will be in the Price City Cemetery.
